To describe important spiritual and philosophical issues Edith Stein used a symbol. The reason was her aesthetical sensitivity, but also, to some extent, her method of the phenomenological view. The definitions of the symbol used by the philosopher in the writings were introduced in the beginning. However, the main purpose of this article is the analysis of the symbolic stone. Recalling the context in the writings of Edith Stein and other texts that influenced her, one can find out that through these images she gets to the essence of all important aspects of the human being. The article discusses, on the basis both of the literaturę on the subject and archival materials preserved in two Russian archives, the fate of military units from the Crown and Lithuanian Army of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, which in the spring-summer of 1793 were taken to the Russian service. Initially, they had ca. 24 thousand soldiers, but the Russian decided to disband some of the units, while reducing the number of others, thus the number of the servicemen decreased to 15 thousand. Started on 17th August 1977 the Opole Walking Pilgrimage to Jasna Góra was a result of many centuries oftradition of dévotion to Our Lady ofCzęstochowa in the Opole region. After érection ofthe apostolic administration ofthe Opole Silesia in 1945 and Opole diocese 27 years later preparing the whole-diocese pilgrimage was impossible because oftwo factors: political context ofthe PPL and reluctance of bishop Franciszek Jop to provoke the government unfavourable towards the Church.
