Austria is one of the leading countries in the world when it comes to organic farming. A closer look at the development of the market shares of different product categories reveals however, that some segments of organic products seemed to be constantly preferred while others were neglected by Austrian consumers over the past years: According to market statistics the categories “meat & poultry” and “ham & sausages” have the lowest market shares of organic fresh produce while at the same time, organic milk and organic eggs have the highest market shares. Predicting valuable forest habitats using an indicator species for biodiversity

Intensive management of boreal forests impairs forest biodiversity and species of old-growth forest. Effective measures to support biodiversity require detection of locations valuable for conservation. We applied species distribution models (SDMs) to a species of mature forest, the northern goshawk (Accipiter gentilis, goshawk), that is often associated with hotspots of forest biodiversity. We located optimal sites for the goshawk on a landscape scale, assessed their state under intensified logging operations and identified characteristics of goshawks' nesting sites in boreal forests. Abstract The synthesis of metallocenic derivatives of aminoglycoside antibiotics, i. e. kanamycin A and tobramycin, is described. The organometallic-labelled compounds have been obtained from the reaction between the polyaminodrugs and organochromium esters of N-hydroxysuccinimide. The reaction proceeded selectively at the 6′-N position, as might be deduced both from the mass and the pH-dependent 13 C-NMR spectra. The procedure could be regarded as generally useful for the metallolabelling of aminoglycoside antibiotics. As an example of application a competitive immunoassay based on the use of these labels is proposed.

Pesiin ja poikasiin kohdistuvaa saalistusta on pidetty tärkeimpänä syynä kanalintukantojen laskuun. Hakkuiden ja nuorten metsien osuuden lisääntymisen on katsottu lisänneen myyräkantoja ja niitä syöviä petoja, kuten kettuja, lisäten näin myös kanalintujen pesiin ja poikasiin kohdistuvaa saalistusta.
