Classifying economics for the common good : a note on the links between sustainable development goals and JEL codes

Purpose This brief note sheds light on the links between Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) codes and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations. Design/methodology/approach Three alternative methods based on keyword overlap to establish links between SDGs and JEL codes are presented. Findings These simple linkages illustrate that the themes of SDGs have corresponding closely related JEL classification codes. Research limitations/implications The mappings presented in this note are based on simple keyword overlap and are therefore necessarily imperfect and incomplete. Does ICT Usage Erode Routine Occupations at the Firm Level?

We present decompositions and regression analyses that evaluate the routinization hypothesis and occupational polarization at the firm level. We establish two important facts. First, the results for the increasing abstract and declining routine occupation shares of total wage bill are consistent with the routinization hypothesis at the firm level. Second, the observed changes coincide with the usage of ICT in firms. This implies that disappearing middle-level (routine) work can be traced to firm-level technological change. Peer reviewed
Mobile money and the impact of mobile phone regulatory enforcement among the urban poor in Tanzania

Mobile money provides a tool for survival, particularly in urban conditions shaped by city regulations that make microvending difficult for the poor. An analysis of 165 interviews conducted in two low-income neighborhoods in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania over 8 years demonstrates how interlocked layers of technology and interaction make mobile money services semiformal. Tutkimuksessa arvioidaan suomalaisten kasvuyritysten välitöntä kontribuutiota talouskasvuun periodilla 2008– 2011 tarkastelemalla työllisyys- ja tuottavuusvaikutusta integroidusti siten, että kasvuyritysten yritysdynamiikkaa verrataan muihin yrityksiin sekä työllisyys- että tuottavuuskehityksessä. Yritysdynamiikkaan kuuluu uusien työpaikkojen syntyminen, vanhojen tuhoutuminen, yritysten tuottavuuskasvu sekä talouden tuottavuutta kohottava yritys- ja työpaikkarakenteiden muutos.
