Palaeoecology of non marine algae and stromatolites: Permian of France and adjacent countries

Abstract Some Permian, continental basins from Algeria, Morocco, France, Italy, Germany and Poland reveal algal remains and stromatolites, mainly during Lower Permian, but also during Middle and Upper Permian. The algae belong to 8 morphogenera and 12 morphospecies. Two species are new. The taxonomic attributions are difficult, even if some species resemble living species. The algae make unorganized masses, or laminated builtups (stromatolites, oncolites, oolites). Algal masses and stromatolites are contained in fluviatile sediments (active or abandoned channels) and lacustrine deposits (playas, ephemeral lakes shorelines, lakes several meters or decameters deep). A lake fortress, a floating chronology, and an atmospheric anomaly: the surprising results of a radiocarbon wiggle-match from Āraiši, Latvia

Abstract An Iron Age timber settlement which, in view of the defensive structures uncovered, is described as a lake fortress, on an island in Lake Āraiši, north-eastern Latvia, was excavated in 1965–69 and 1975–79 by teams led by Jānis Apals, who distinguished five construction phases. Dendrochronological analysis produced a c. 100-year floating chronology for Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst.) timbers from the earliest phase. A 14C wiggle-match was undertaken to obtain an absolute date range for the final year of the floating chronology, and thus for the construction of the settlement. The paper presents results of geobotanic studies conducted in anthropogenic water bodies like excavation ponds, fish culture ponds, other ponds, dam reservoirs, ditches, channels and recreational pools incl. watering places in Opole Silesia and surroundings in the years 2002-2005. The research focused on occurrence of threatened and rare pondweed communities. Summary This paper presents the characteristics of the species Ganoderma lucidum in terms of health-promoting properties. This species is rare in Poland, and is subject to strict protection. Reishi is classified as a medicinal mushroom which fruiting bodies are characterized by a content of active substances with diverse positive effects on human health. G. lucidum is particularly rich source of bioactive compounds, which are obtained from fruiting bodies, mycelium and spores of this species. none 16 si Although outcropping rarely in Italy, evaporite (gypsum and anhydrite) karst has been described in detail since the early 20th century. Gypsum caves are now known from almost all Italian regions, but are mainly localised along the northern border of the Apennine chain (Emilia Romagna and Marche), Calabria, and Sicily, where the major outcrops occur. Recently, important caves have also been discovered in the underground gypsum mines in Piedmont. Tutkin työssäni hirsirakentamisen teollistumisen mahdollisia motiiveja ja seurauksia. Kun puhutaan hirsitalosta, nousee monien mieleen käsityönä veistetty punainen tupa. Nykyään kuitenkin suurin osa Suomessa rakennetuista hirsitaloista on teollisesti valmistettuja. Tutkimukseni fokus on teollistumiskehityksessä ja teollistumisen vaikutuksissa työn tehokkuuteen. Abstract The aim of this study was to unravel the relative role played by speleogenesis (i.e., the process in which a cave is formed), landscape‐scale variables, and geophysical factors in the determination of species richness in caves. Biological inventories from 21 caves located in the southeastern Iberian Peninsula along with partial least square (PLS) regression analysis were used to assess the relative importance of the different explanatory variables. Briofītu inducētās izturības pētījumi ar hlorofila a fluorescences analīzes metodi

Darbā aprakstīti briofītu pielāgošanās mehānismi sarežģītiem dzīves apstākļiem. Mērķis bija noskaidrot, vai nepārtrauktā hlorofila a fluorescence ir izmantojama, lai noteiktu briofītu inducēto izturību. Pētījums sastāv no divām daļām. Lai noteiktu briofītu izžūšanas izturību un iespēju izmantot hlorofila a fluorescences metodi tās novērtēšanai, ievāktas trīs sugas, kurām veikta fluorescences analīze paraugu izžūšanas laikā. Lai noteiktu briofītu fluorescences rādītājus briofītiem dažādās temperatūrās, ievāktas 4 sugas. Darbā secināts, ka nepārtraukto hlorofila a fluorescenci ir iespējams izmantot, lai noteiktu briofītu inducēto izturību. Iegūtie fluorescences dati norāda uz izmaiņām briofīt…
