The association between board gender diversity and financial reporting quality, corporate performance and corporate social responsibility disclosure …

2017

Purpose (mandatory) Companies, politicians, the mass media, legislators, scholars and society in general have shown a growing interest in how board gender diversity affects a firm’s decisions. This concept has been developed because some nations have introduced voluntary policies to regulate and increase the proportion of female directors on corporate boards. Thus, the aim of this study is to review previous research based on board gender diversity as a corporate governance mechanism and its effect on some firms’ business decisions: Financial reporting quality (FRQ), firm performance and corporate social responsibility (CSR) reporting. Design/methodology/approach (mandatory) We focus on age…

Stakeholder Thinking and a Pedagogical Approach in Public Relations Processes: Experience From Transition Societies

2007

Public relations (PR) and communication management (CM) processes have mostly been studies in stable democratic societies. This article, focusing on the republics of the former Soviet Union in Central and Eastern Europe, takes a stakeholder analytical approach to the processes of PR and CM in such transition societies and the emergence of Western-style PR and CM concepts during the change from totalitarianism to democracy. Selected state institutions and businesses operating before, during, and after the transition period were examined; personal and questionnaire interviews were conducted, and policy documents and media texts were analyzed using quantitative and qualitative analysis and the…

Do public sector mergers (re)shape reputation?

2014

Purpose – The public sector worldwide is under pressure to downsize, which has led to mergers of public sector organisations. The paper discusses change and reputation in the public sector, and reports findings of a longitudinal study on stakeholder assessments of four public sector organisations undergoing mergers recently. Design/methodology/approach – Following a theory-driven content analysis, this longitudinal study compares stakeholder assessments of four public sector organisations' reputations a year before an organisational merger with assessments of the two resulting organisa…

Environmental Voluntary Programs in the Transport Industry in the Post-COVID Situation: The French Experience

2022

This study investigates the drivers impacting the success of the environmental voluntary program recently launched in France. This program, titled EVE (Engagements Volontaires pour l’Environnement), aims to improve transport operators’ efficiency and to reduce CO2 emissions in the environment. Due to the complexity of the context in which the EVE program is implemented, we used a System Dynamics (SD) approach. This study offers multiple contributions. First, studying the dynamic interdependences of voluntary programs aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the transport industry can help policymakers in designing successful policies. In addition, the study can help transport operators engaged…

Kehollisuuden ulottuvuudet Lauri Rauhalan holistisessa ihmiskäsityksessä - esimerkkinä addiktio

2020

Puhuessamme ihmisen kehosta tai ruumiista ei aina ole selvää, mitä itse asiassa tarkoitamme. Lauri Rauhalan holistiseen ihmiskäsitykseen kuuluvaa kehollisuuden olemispuolta on aiemmin tarkasteltu ainoastaan aineellis-orgaanisena tapahtumisena. Holistisessa kontekstissaan kehollisuus näyttäytyy kuitenkin myös persoonan elettynä kehona. Artikkeli tarjoaa filosofisen ja holistisen näkökulman addiktiokeskusteluun vallitsevan biomedikaalisen sairausoletuksen sijaan. Myös holistisessa psykoterapiassa addiktoitunut yksilö tulisi kohdata addiktiotaan elämäntilanteessaan kehollisesti kokevana ja ilmaisevana persoonana. peerReviewed

Corporate Governance: Stakeholder Value Versus Shareholder Value

2001

Unsatisfied with the dominating shareholders point of view, that appears to be too limited to build a relevant theory of corporate governance, we propose an enlarged definition of the value which may be called, the stakeholder value. This definition and its associated measure are more suitable for the stakeholder approach to the firm and more relevant to understand the value creation and sharing mechanisms.
