Coping strategies are not necessarily mutually exclusive and can be used simultaneously, a fact which has rarely been examined in coping research. We examined what kinds of coping profiles could be found in data concerning Finnish health care and service employees (n = 2756). We also studied whether role engagement (family-to-work-enrichment, work-to-family-enrichment, emotional energy at work, and work engagement) and subjective well-being (life, parental, and marital satisfaction, and psychological distress) differ between coping profiles. Speculation and lottery-like demand in cryptocurrency markets

Abstract This is the first paper that explores lottery-like demand in cryptocurrency markets. Since recent research provides evidence that cryptocurrency returns appear to be short-memory processes, we modify Bali, Cakici and Whitelaw’s (2011) and Bali, Brown, Murray, and Tang’s (2017) MAX measure and employ a weekly forecast horizon and daily log-returns from the previous week to calculate the metric for our portfolio sorts. Rural livelihood diversification: a solution for poverty in the post‐Soviet rural Baltic states?

This article analyses rural livelihood diversification through a longitudinal follow‐up survey, that targets former collective farm workers in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It argues, that between 1995 and 2010 the former collective farm workers employed three distinct livelihood diversification strategies in order to create their living. A wage‐based livelihood diversification strategy, which does not include any agricultural practices, was more common among the better‐off households. A farm‐based livelihood diversification strategy, which does not rely on salaries, was more often employed by the poor. The purpose of this thesis was to examine the resilience and sustainability of rural Ethiopian livelihoods. The resilience and sustainability of livelihoods were studied in framework of food security. Preventing, coping and recovering from the shocks and stresses, in this case from drought and food insecurity, form an essential part of resilience and sustainability and therefore preventing and coping strategies were emphasized in this study. Also the effectiveness of the external aid was touched in empirical data because of its essential existence in the studied villages. Vaikka kaikista osa-alueista ei tutkimusraportissa olekaan tekstiä kovin laajasti, raportti antaa silti toivottavasti yleiskuvan siitä, mistä Keski-Pohjanmaa elää. Samalla päättäjät myös näkevät, minkä verran mistäkin asiasta on saatavissa tietoa ja mistä asioista olisi lisäselvitystarpeita.

Tutkimukseni kohteena on kuolansuomalaisen uudisasutuksen kehittyminen ja suomalaisyhteisöjen elinkaari Kuolan niemimaalla 1800-luvun puolivälistä 1940-luvun alkuun. Keskiössä on Päiväjärven eli Tuuloman kylä Murmanskin eteläpuolella Tuulomajoen varressa. Tutkimusaineisto koostuu tekemästäni entisen Päiväjärven asukkaan, Helena Lokan haastattelusta sekä Murmanskin aluearkiston arkistomateriaalilähteistä, joihin kuuluvat mm. Päiväjärven ja viereisen Jyrkinän kylän kyläneuvostojen pöytäkirjat 1930-luvulta. Dependence between renewable energy related critical metal futures and producer equity markets across varying market conditions

We study the dependence of renewable energy production-related critical metal futures and producer equity returns, compared to the non-renewable energy (oil and natural gas) and some other globally relevant commodity markets. We find different asymmetric and symmetric dependencies in these commodity markets. The dependence is asymmetric in the most important critical metal markets, i.e., of silver, copper, and platinum. Still, surprisingly, for example, in the oil market, the relationship is symmetric, and no relationship is found in the natural gas market. Tässä kymmenestä artikkelista koostuvassa kokoomateoksessa tarkastellaan Varkautta rakennemuutoksen kanssa kamppailevana pienenä kaupunkina historiallisia dokumentteja sekä vuosina 2016–2017 kerättyjä kysely- ja haastatteluaineistoa hyödyntäen. Pitkän teollisuushistorian omaava Varkauden kaupunki on tämän vuosituhannen ensimmäisinä vuosikymmeninä menettänyt suuren osan teollisista työpaikoistaan ja sen väestö on supistunut voimakkaasti. Kuitenkin koko aikuisväestöä edustava kysely kertoo, että varkautelaiset ovat tyypillisesti tyytyväisiä työhönsä, sosiaalisiin suhteisiinsa ja elämäänsä muutenkin. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan aktivointipolitiikan paradigmaan lukeutuvan nuorisotakuun kannustavuutta. Tämä tapahtuu tutkimalla sitä toimeenpanevien TE-toimistojen toimintaa erityisesti työntekijän ja nuoren työnhakijan vuorovaikutuksellisen kohtaamisen näkökulmasta. Tässä työvoimapoliittisen byrokratian kehystämässä kohtaamisessa muodostuvaa kannustavuutta tutkitaan nuoren subjektiivista aktivoitumista mittaamalla. Lisäksi järjestelmän kykyä kannustaa indikoidaan työntekijän arviolla nuoren hakijan vastuunkannosta sekä tähän arvioon rinnastuvilla hakijalle osoitetuilla työvoimapoliittisilla lausunnoilla.
