Lifelong Guidance in Finland : Key Policies and Practices
2020
Finland has a long history of good collaboration between the educational and employment sector regarding lifelong guidance, specifically career guidance. Today, this manifests as having a national strategy for lifelong guidance, good access to high quality services and innovative pilots such as the One-Stop Guidance Centres for youth. The new government led by Prime Minister Sanna Marin has decided to put even more efforts into lifelong guidance. This chapter describes what has been done and what future challenges lie ahead. peerReviewed
Urban drinking and driving:comparison of electric scooter and bicycle related accidents in facial fracture patients
2022
In recent years, electric scooters (e-scooter) have emerged as an alternative mode of urban transport due to their availability and effortless use. However, e-scooter-related trauma and injuries, especially to the head, have received wide media coverage and raised public concern about their safety. We aim to determine and compare clinically relevant variables, incidence, and severity between bicycle and e-scooter-related facial fractures and potential protective measures for injury prevention. This retrospective study comprised all patients admitted to a tertiary trauma center with bicycle or e-scooter-related facial fractures between January 2019 and October 2020. Patient- and injury-relat…
Keyhole Limpet Haemocyanin in Experimental Bladder Cancer
2000
Objectives: Keyhole limpet haemocyanin (KLH) is a high-molecular-weight protein antigen collected from the haemolymph of the sea mollusk Megathura crenulata. It i
Electron microscopy of a double helical tubular filament in keyhole limpet (Megathura crenulata) hemolymph.
1992
A approximately 25 nm hollow double helical filament has been detected ultrastructurally in the cell-free supernatant from hemolymph of the keyhole limpet Megathura crenulata (Gastropoda: Prosobranchia: Fissurellidae). Subsequently, much higher concentrations of this material were found in the cell pellet from hemolymph. Both negative staining and thin sectioning have been performed in an attempt to obtain a preliminary structural characterization of this new filament. It is proposed that the filaments are released or secreted from blood hemocytes in response to bleeding, but it has not been possible to define absolutely an intracellular organelle containing this material. It is shown that …
Are woodland key habitats biodiversity hotspots in boreal forests?
2011
Background: The concept of Woodland Key Habitats (WKH, small-scaled presumed hotspots of biodiversity) has become an essential component of forest management in Fennoscandian and Baltic countries. There have been debates over the importance of WKHs in relation to production forests, and several research projects have focused on differences in biodiversity between the two. Results have been contradictory, and thus there is a need to summarize and clarify the existing knowledge. - Objectives: Our objective was to summarize knowledge on comparisons of several biodiversity qualities between WKHs and production forests in relevant countries i.e. the countries where WKH concept has been implement…

The Influence of Behavioral Factors on Insurance Decision – A Romanian Approach
2013
Abstract Although the classical economic theory postulates that individuals should make perfectly rational choices that take into account all the available information, I will present, in the following, the action of behavioral factors on the decisions regarding the insurance against certain events. I will analyze the elements that determine a person who should be covered against a risk, not to buy insurance and the reverse situation when, although the likelihood of the event is reduced, a person will secure against the damage(s) caused by it. In this paper I developed a general approach of the behavioral factors with specific reference to the Romanian market .Finally, I will suggest the in…
Yeast Killer Toxin-Like Candidacidal Ab6 Antibodies Elicited through the Manipulation of the Idiotypic Cascade
2014
A mouse anti-anti-anti-idiotypic (Id) IgM monoclonal antibody (mAb K20, Ab4), functionally mimicking a Wyckerhamomyces anomalus (Pichia anomala) killer toxin (KT) characterized by fungicidal activity against yeasts presenting specific cell wall receptors (KTR) mainly constituted by β-1,3-glucan, was produced from animals presenting anti-KT Abs (Ab3) following immunization with a rat IgM anti-Id KT-like mAb (mAb K10, Ab2). MAb K10 was produced by immunization with a KT-neutralizing mAb (mAb KT4, Ab1) bearing the internal image of KTR. MAb K20, likewise mAb K10, proved to be fungicidal in vitro against KT-sensitive Candida albicans cells, an activity neutralized by mAb KT4, and was capable of…

Thilachium madagascariense (Capparaceae), a new species from eastern Madagascar with a key to the species of the genus
2021
SummaryThilachium madagascariense Fici, a small tree characterised by 1-foliolate leaves with articulate petioles, leaf blades elliptic or narrowly obovate with base attenuate and apex acuminate, flowers in groups of 2 – 3 at the top of lateral twigs and a high number of stamens, is described and illustrated from forest habitats of eastern Madagascar. The new species is similar to T. laurifolium Baker, a species endemic to central and eastern Madagascar, differing in the longer leaves with acuminate apex, flowers conferted at the top of lateral twigs, shorter pedicels, higher number of stamens and shorter gynophore. Its affinities are discussed and an updated key is provided for all the spe…
