Cyclin D1 and Ki-67 expression correlates to tumor staging in tongue squamous cell carcinoma

Background The immunohistochemical expression of Cyclin D1 and Ki-67 were analyzed in tongue squamous cell carcinomas (SCC), relating them to the clinical and morphological exhibition of these tumors. Material and Methods Twenty-nine patients fulfilled the inclusion criteria; clinical data included gender, age, ethnicity and use of licit drugs such as alcohol and tobacco. Vascular endothelial growth factor expression in nasal polyps of aspirin-intolerant patients.

Objective To study differences between aspirin-tolerant patients and aspirin-intolerant patients concerning vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) expression. Recent publications strongly suggest the involvement of VEGF and its receptors in the pathophysiologic process of nasal polyps. Background: Erythropoietin (EPO) is a cytokine primarily involved in the regulation of erythropoiesis. In response to hypoxia–ischemia, hypoxia-inducible factor 1 induces EPO production, which, in turn, inhibits apoptosis of erythroid progenitor cells. By the same mechanism and acting through other signaling pathways, EPO exerts neuroprotective effects. p53 and Ki-67 expression in renal cell carcinomas of pregnant women and their correlation with prognosis: a pilot study.

In the present study, we reported two cases of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) diagnosed in pregnant women (Pt) that were submitted to radical nephrectomy, in both cases within the fourth month. The patients, after 13 and 3 years, respectively, did not show evidence of recurrent disease. We performed an immunohistochemical study on RCC specimens in comparison to seven age-matched controls (Cl). The panel of antibodies included Ki-67, p53, bcl-2, ER, PgR, PCNA, and IGF-1. Bioactivity of well-defined green tea extracts in multicellular tumor spheroids.

The effect of green tea extracts (GTE) of a reproducible, well-defined composition on cellular viability, proliferation, and antioxidant defense was investigated in multicellular spheroids derived from WiDr human colon adenocarcinoma cells. The maximum GTE concentration investigated, i.e. 100 micro g GTE/ml, was equivalent to the plasma concentration commonly measured in humans drinking 6-10 cups of green tea per day.
