This twopart paper, published here and in the next issue, focuses on these mandatory language and communication studies at Finnish universities. The first part offers a broad overview of the most recent changes in Finnish educational policy. Abstract This introductory article opens the thematic issue Spaces of Upset in the Nordic Region. It introduces the contributions of the issue, outlines the concepts that unite them, and discusses the sociolinguistic area in which they are set: the Nordic region. Centering on Denmark, Finland and Sweden, the article offers an overview of some of the sociolinguistic, ideological and political characteristics of the region and the countries it comprises. The Nordic region is widely seen as a paradigm case of social stability, consensus and cohesion. This vision is, however, a mirage. Głównym celem artykułu jest przedstawienie badań archeologicznych z 2013 r. w miejscowości Kartal/Orłowka na Ukrainie. Badania dotyczyły odkrycia wielokulturowego kompleksu osadniczego i znajdującego się na nim cmentarzyska. Odkryte cmentarzysko związane jest z eneolitem i epoką brązu. Pochówki szkieletowe odkryte podczas wykopalisk ułożone były w pozycji embrionalnej (skurczone po prawej stronie, nogi podciągnięte pod klatkę piersiową), jeden z nich był podwójny. Przy pochówkach odnaleziono wyposażenie w postaci miski ceramicznej i małego glinianego naczynia. Kości ludzkie zachowane były w złym stanie, zostały uszkodzone przez czas, glebę i niewielką głębokość zalegania pochówku. Badacze r…

Oppimateriaaleja kaunokirjallisuuden käyttöön lukion vieraan kielen opetuksessa on ollut tarjolla niukasti. Kaunokirjallisuuden lukeminen vieraalla kielellä tarjoaa kuitenkin mahdollisuuden oppia kieltä hauskalla ja mielekkäällä tavalla formaalin opetuksen ulkopuolella, joten sitä opetukseen soveltavalle materiaalille on selvästi tarvetta. Materiaalia, jossa harjoitetaan monipuolisesti jokaista neljää kielitaidon osa-aluetta (lukeminen, kirjoittaminen, puhuminen, kuunteleminen) on myös suhteellisen vähän saatavilla.
