This article discusses raciolinguistic ideologies in the Finnish educational context. Ethnographic interviews and observational data gathered during 2015–2020 from two young males who came to Finland from the Middle-East in autumn 2015 as unaccompanied minors were analysed applying the small stories approach. Reciprocal associations between social competence and language and pre-literacy skills in preschool

The present study examined reciprocal associations between children’s social competence and language and pre-literacy skills across the preschool year. Participants were 441 children (six-year-olds; 212 boys, 229 girls) and their teachers. Teachers rated children’s social competence in the autumn and again in the spring, using the Multisource Assessment of Social Competence Scale (MASCS), which produced sum scores for cooperating skills, empathy, impulsivity and disruptiveness. Tutkimuksen tehtävänä oli selvittää englannin kielen roolia pakolaisten kotoutumisessa Suomeen. Erityisesti huomiota kiinnitettiin englannin kielen merkitykseen kahdella kotoutumisen osa-alueella: koulutuksessa ja työelämässä. Lisäksi selvitettiin pakolaisten omia tavoitteita kotoutumiselle. Tutkimukseen osallistui kymmenen (10) täysi-ikäistä pakolaista kolmesta keskisuuresta kaupungista. Tutkimukseen osallistujat ovat yhtä poikkeusta lukuun ottamatta kaikki miehiä keski-iältään 33,4 vuotta. Enemmistö tutkittavista puhuu englantia parhaiten äidinkielensä jälkeen.
