Coordinated Interpersonal Behaviour in Collective Dance Improvisation: The Aesthetics of Kinaesthetic Togetherness

International audience; Collective dance improvisation (e.g., traditional and social dancing, contact improvisation) is a participatory, relational and embodied art form which eschews standard concepts in aesthetics. We present our ongoing research into the mechanisms underlying the lived experience of "togetherness" associated with such practices. Togetherness in collective dance improvisation is kinaesthetic (based on movement and its perception), and so can be simultaneously addressed from the perspective of the performers and the spectators, and be measured. Sight-reading at the piano requires coordination of multiple modalities—visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Visual feedback (obtained by looking at the keyboard and the fingers) is usually regarded as one means by which pianists guide musical performance, but few researchers have focused on the organisational aspects implicit in the information provided by the keyboard. Suomessa vieraan kielen opiskelu aloitetaan tavallisimmin kolmannella luokalla, ja suurimmalle osalle oppilaista tämä kieli on englanti. Tällöin oppilas alkaa rakentaa kuvaa sekä englannin kielestä että itsestään englannin kielen opiskelijana. Onnistumisen kokemukset ovat tässä vaiheessa tärkeitä, ja yksi tapa niiden mahdollistamiseen on oppilaan oppimistyyliä vastaava opetus. Kolmannen luokan englannin oppitunneille osallistuu kuitenkin heterogeeninen ryhmä erilaisia oppijoita, minkä vuoksi on käytettävä vaihtelevia opetusmenetelmiä.
