Menores criados por sus abuelas. Mejora de la pautas de cuidado a menores en acogimiento familiar en familia extensa a través de un programa de inter…
2011
[EN] In this research we have tried to describe the fostering kinship with grandparents as an alternative to living together in cases in which parents cannot play or stop playing their roles of main caregivers of their own children. This diversity ranges from multiproblematical and risky families, in which the situations of neglect and unprotection of minors prevail, to the care of minors due to more normalized causes (like parents death, divorce, etc.) The impact of this family situation on grandparents requires an special attention, due to problems related to the restructuring of roles, i.e. turning grandparents into substitute parents. The prevention of the emergence of negative conseque…
Genomic conflicts and sexual antagonism in human health: Insights from oxytocin and testosterone
2015
We review the hypothesized and observed effects of two of the major forms of genomic conflicts, genomic imprinting and sexual antagonism, on human health. We focus on phenotypes mediated by peptide and steroid hormones (especially oxytocin and testosterone) because such hormones centrally mediate patterns of physical and behavioral resource allocation that underlie both forms of conflict. In early development, a suite of imprinted genes modulates the human oxytocinergic system as predicted from theory, with paternally inherited gene expression associated with higher oxytocin production, and increased solicitation to mothers by infants. This system is predicted to impact health through the i…
Homoseksualitāte un Adventistu Baznīca: LGBT piederība adventistu kopienā
2015
FATHERS AND CHILDREN OF IVORIAN INDEPENDENCE: METAPHORS OF KINSHIP AND GENERATION IN THE MAKING OF A NATIONAL TIME
2015
I look at the image of a generation of youth as the vanguard force of an ongoing struggle for independence and a new nation on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Ivorian independence. Drawing upon the theoretical framework of Reinhart Koselleck, I explore the making of national time as layered temporality, with generations not succeeding each other but rather coexisting. My analysis of expressions and performances of ‘doing being youth’ helps in understanding how the label ‘youth’ is used to mark membership in or exclusion from a collective. I examine the process of how ‘youth’ is made into a meaningful marker and how and why political actors engage in performances of ‘being youth’…

Beyond the Family and the Household: Occupational Family Networks
2009
Although families and kinship have been studied extensively from a historical perspective, less attention has been paid to their significance and role in the formation of local social networks. This study makes use of extensive Finnish records of godparentage to map local networks to analyze the factors (kinship, work relations, neighborhood, friendship) that influenced their formation. It argues that, in the context of a closed industrial community, occupation and kinship were the major cornerstones of these networks. Only after work-related inequality was slowly eliminated in the early twentieth century did kinship begin to gain ground as the main influencing factor.
Selective Kinship in Sicilian Cultural Identity: a Land Posing.
Sicilian history could be summarized as an endless succession of rulers that came from the sea. Thus Sicilian identity could be consid-ered as the epitome of a postcolonial identity, if there could be one. Its position at the exact center of the Mediterranean has made the island the gateway between European, African and Middle Eastern culture. This mix of insularity and cosmopolitism still dramatically affects the way Sicilians see themselves; in this paper my aim is to under-stand how this mix has impacted the perception of their own history by contemporary Sicilians. This paper seeks to shed light on some of the myths of the Sicilian past that influenced writers and thinkers from Sicily an…
Parenté et organisation sociale chez les Wayùu. Retour sur la question
2021
The Academy of Turku During the Last Century of Swedish Rule (1720–1809)
2019
The chapter begins by describing the University of Turku as an academic community in the estate-based society of the Kingdom of Sweden, which had lost its status as a Great Power. The author explains the kinship system, born in the seventeenth century, which served to strengthen academic communities both ideologically and economically. Ties of kinship increased ideological cohesion and the sense of a scholarly community both in good and in bad: they were the channel through which books, clothes, and traditions were passed on; however, the kinship system also increased the risk of closedness and inbreeding.
The ideal restructuring of migrant families in the immigration law
2013
The legal configuration of kinship ties in immigration law is governed by a restrictive logic that combines a dependent and nuclear composition with mismatches in the concrete form of managing the distances, the dynamics and the times at origin and destination. The family model in immigration law has an ideal and dominant approach openly excluding other family realities in the social context. Law in an inherent tendency towards the ideal doesn’t allow a legitimate choice between autonomy and individual freedom in order to define or not the family project and own relationships. In this paper I discuss from a critical approach the inconsistencies presented by the current Spanish immigration l…
