How to Become an Author: The Poet Isa Asp and Her Childhood Fascination with Writing for Magazines

In this article the author explores the early development of the identity as a writer of a Finnish-speaking poet Lovisa (or Isa) Asp (1853–1872). She wrote her lyrics in the Finnish language in the 1870s, and she is regarded as the first 19th-century female Finnish poet (whose works were published in Finnish). She began writing poetry (initially in Swedish) as a teenager and started her literary career as a contributor to children’s magazines. Asp began her studies at the Teacher Training College in Jyväskylä in autumn 1871 with the aim of working as an elementary school teacher, but she also dreamt of becoming an established writer someday. Pro gradu -tutkielmani käsittelee huumeiden ja kirjailijoiden luovuuden välistä yhteyttä. Kirjailijat ja alkoholi yhdistetään helposti toisiinsa, ja erityisesti siten, että alkoholi on ollut muusa. Alkoholiin mieltyneiden kirjailijoiden lisäksi historia tuntee myös huumeita käyttäneitä kirjailijoita. Miten huumeet vaikuttivat heidän luovuuteensa? Oliko eri huumeilla erilaisia vaikutuksia? Vai oliko huumeista pikemminkin haittaa luovalle työlle? Tarkastelen neljän hyvin erilaisen kirjailijan päihteidenkäyttöhistoriaa ja tuotantoa. Kirjailijat ovat William S. This study provides a novel perspective on Senkovsky’s legacy, an attempt to comprehend his works through theatrical methods.Senkovsky’s literary masks express theatricality in his works. The study is concerned with the worlds of heroes in Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's novel The First Circle. The main methodological principle is tracing and analysing the point of view of the hero and the ways in which it is narrated (>close reading=). The work consists of two parts, titled Power and Man and the System. Approaches vary from socio-critical and historical ones to psychological and philosophical enquiries. On the basis of such multi-faceted criticism, the poetical canvas of the novel is constructed. This study explores the writings of Sylvia Plath Forum, a discussion forum in the Internet that was launched in 1998. Using Norman Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis, Chaïm Perelman’s theory of argumentation, Kenneth Burke’s idea of identification as the basis of rhetoric, and René Girards’s theory of mimetic desire as its framework this study looks into the forum’s meaning-making processes and the ways the author Sylvia Plath (1932-1963) and her readers are represented on the forum.
