Ensembles of learnt models constitute one of the main current directions in machine learning and data mining. It was shown experimentally and theoretically that in order for an ensemble to be effective, it should consist of classifiers having diversity in their predictions. A number of ways are known to quantify diversity in ensembles, but little research has been done about their appropriateness. This research is focused on the barriers and their reasons concerning collaborative innovating and co-creating in networked societies called netgoras. As knowledge is seen as the basis of innovation, and an important factor for our economies, we need to be able to create, leverage and use this benefit together. The results give evidence that people have barriers on several levels originating from different reasons. It is necessary to foreground the reasons for the barriers restraining people from co-operation in innovation societies in network environments.

Comprehension and learning with hypertexts are challenging due to the nonlinearity of such digital documents. Processing hypertexts may involve navigation and comprehension problems, leading learners to cognitive overhead. Concept maps have been added to hypertexts to reduce the cognitive requirements of navigation and comprehension. This chapter explores the literature to examine the effects of concept maps on navigation, comprehension, and learning from hypertexts. Chapter 1 Amalgams, Colimits, and Conceptual Blending

This chapter is a theoretical exploration of Joseph Goguen’s category-theoretic model of conceptual blending and presents an alternative proposal to model blending as amalgams, which were originally proposed as a method for knowledge transfer in case-based reasoning. The chapter concludes with a generalisation of the amalgam-based model by relating it to the notion of colimit, thus providing a category-theoretic characterisation of amalgams that is ultimately computationally realisable.
