Changing World: Changing Pedagogy

2012

The purpose of this chapter is to examine the requirements of the rapidly changing world of work with regard to vocational competences and professional expertise, as well as their pedagogical implications for vocational and higher education. The first part of the chapter deals with recent macro-level trends in the working world in terms of the development of a knowledge society and a network society. On the basis of a brief literature review, a summary of required generic professional competences is presented. The second part focuses on the pedagogical implications of the changing world. First, traditional pedagogical practices which provide little contribution to the development of the kin…

Entrepreneurial Decision-Making Logic Related to Software Development in Different Growth Phases of INVs

2019

Software-based innovations with global market-potential are the main product offering of digital-based International New Ventures, an emerging type of rapidly internationalizing firm. Despite increasing research attention on the internationalization phases of these firms, knowledge of how the characteristics of the firm’s software offerings change over time remains scarce. In this paper, we analyze how standardization, customization and localization evolve through the growth and commitment of International New Ventures in foreign markets. Specifically, we posit that an entrepreneurial decision-making logic based on a logic of effectuation or causation acts as a trigger mechanism for specifi…

Geriatric Insights on Elderly Women and Heart Disease

2017

Purpose of Review: The prevalence of heart diseases is growing in recent years and will further rise because of the increased longevity of elderly population, mainly reported for the female gender. Recent Findings: Several studies have demonstrated the presence of a large sex-specific variability on physiopathology, presentation, and overall prognosis of cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Women, in particular, tend to present heart diseases generally later than men, have a higher number of comorbidities, and report worse outcomes. Moreover, atypical symptomatology of heart diseases in older women constitutes a potential source of delay in the identification of such pathologies, influencing the …

MICROSCOPIC AND MACROSCOPIC ASPECTS OF STUDENT KNOWLEDGE IN ELECTRIC CONDUCTION IN METALS

2010

This paper presents some preliminary results of a research aimed at portraying individual models of description/explanation of electrical conduction in metals shown by physics prospective teachers and at studying how a specifically designed pedagogical environment can support an adequate evolution of their knowledge and disciplinary competencies. A teaching/learning sequence (TLS) on the subject matter, making use of custom Information Technology tools, aimed at facilitating and scaffolding learning, is shortly described. Some relevant points of the research pilot phases, like the analysis of prospective teachers’ spontaneous models of electrical conduction, the identification of significan…

CNN based Gearbox Fault Diagnosis and Interpretation of Learning Features

2021

Machine learning based fault diagnosis schemes have been intensively proposed to deal with faults diagnosis of rotating machineries such as gearboxes, bearings, and electric motors. However, most of the machine learning algorithms used in fault diagnosis are pattern recognition tools, which can classify given data into two or more classes. The underlined physical phenomena in fault diagnosis are not directly interpretable in machine learning schemes, thus it is usually called black/gray box models. In this study, convolutional neural networks (CNN) machine learning algorithm is proposed to classify gearbox faults, and the learning features of the CNN filters are visualized to understand the…

PROFESSIONAL AND MANAGERIAL COMPETENCIES ENHANCING ORGANIZATIONAL COMPETENCES OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL UNITS

2019

This article is focused on identifying within managers of Emergency Medical Units (EMU) the common professional competencies of medical personnel, as well as the managerial competencies that significantly shape such organizations. The proposed lists of managerial and professional competencies were created based on the analysis of healthcare competencies models as literature studies and own author’s observations in the analyzed entities. To capture the complexity and dynamic quality of the EMU manager’s role and reflect the dynamic realities in health leadership today, the managerial competencies model distinguishes five domains with 26 competencies, while the model of professional competenc…

APIS to extract information in social channels in educational context

2018

In this days the world is involved in the research and development of new resources, and methods that allow the use of new technologies fulfilling a goal that is the learning of education through the Web, thus using resources such as different APIs for different purposes. Taking into account the functionalities provided by the APIs, the objective was to obtain information about the different educational resources in the social channels of the Universidad Tecnica Particular de Loja (UTPL). The study of pervious APIs is a part of the project Use of Cloud Computing tools, Bodies of Knowledge and affective computing in the process of developing technological skills focused on problem solving of…

Emotions in a cognitive architecture for human robot interactions

2004

A robot architecture is proposed in which cognitive models of emotions are modelled in terms of conceptual spaces. The architecture has been implemented in a anthropomorphic robotic hand system. Experimental results are described related to an experimental setup in which the robot system plays Rock Paper Scissor against a human opponent Copyright © 2004, American Association for Artificial Intelligence (www.aaai.org).

The Trust of the Information from Employer Rating Platforms

2017

Employer rating platforms are an important platform for potential candidates to collect and provide information about employer. The research investigates the reason to use employer rating platforms by individuals. The focus is on the factor trust for employment rating platforms Trust is important for the exchange of information and use of employer rating platforms. This paper evaluates the factor of trust for the use of employment rating platforms. The analysis of empirical data obtained in survey has been processed with statistical analysis. The research has been done by survey with 514 participants who are living in Germany. The research provide the result that the use of employer rating …
