Student’s voice online: Experiences of PE in Finnish schools

The aim of this descriptive study was to find out how people describe their experiences of physical education (PE) in Internet discussion forums. The data for this study were collected during one randomly chosen week in April 2007 via a GoogleTM search using the Finnish word ‘koululiikunta’ [school PE]. The first 200 hits lead into nine discussion forums, which were analysed by using qualitative content analysis. These nine discussion forums included all together 356 messages. Nuorten syrjäytymisestä on viime vuosina oltu huolissaan. Pahimmillaan siirtymä alakoulusta yläkouluun toimii syrjäytymiseen johtavana kuiluna koulutuspolulla. Herkkään siirtymäaikaan liittyvät riskitekijät olisi tärkeää tunnistaa ennaltaehkäisyn tueksi. Tämän pro gradu –tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli tarkastella oppilaiden siirtymäkokemusten kehitystä alakoulusta yläkouluun. Tavoitteena oli selvittää, onko erityisoppilaana oleminen yhteydessä siirtymäkokemuksien laatuun. Michel Foucault’s (1926–1984) thought is widely used in the humanities and social sciences for investigating experiences of madness, illness, marginalization and social conflicts. However, the meaning of the word “experience” is not always clearly defined, and the French word expérience has a whole variety of meanings. In this article I explicate Foucault’s most relevant concepts of experience and their theoretical functions. Terveydenhuoltoon suunnattu informaatioteknologia on lisääntynyt viimeisten vuosien aikana merkittävästi ja sen odotetaan lisääntyvän edelleen. Teknologian käyttöä kuvaavan TAM-mallin mukaan koetulla hyödyllisyydellä on suora yhteys teknologian käyttöön. Emotions play an essential role in aesthetic and art experience. Graffiti is an example of urban visual communication, and it can also be understood as a form of art. Like other works of art, graffiti can evoke different aesthetic emotions in its audiences, such as pleasure, wonder, interest and pride but also disinterest, disappointment or embarrassment, and even anger and disgust—further impacting, for example, how they value this art form.
