Museum Studies – Bridging Theory and Practice
2021
This book is a handbook for everyone who is interested in museums and the wider cultural and cultural heritage debates. In the spirit of lifelong learning, it aims to connect the humanistic discipline of museum studies with the wider context of society. Museums possess power as safekeepers of our memories. This book will, in its own small way, take part in the discussion of making our past and future memories matter, to show how important it is for us to understand our past. In our contemporary culture it often seems that no time is allowed for this kind of understanding; the constant flow of issues and “must dos” often hinders us from seeing the connections between our past and present. In…
Towards Ecosystemic Stance in Finnish Public Sector Enterprise Architecture
2019
Governments and organizations in both public and private sector are operating in fields of ever-growing uncertainty and complexity. To study this complex environment, the concept of ecosystems has been suggested, interpreting organizations as intertwined systems among layers of evolving ecosystems. While offering possibilities, operating in an ecosystemic environment might prove to be challenging, and the change from traditional governance structures might be difficult to manage, requiring holistic yet detailed view. Enterprise Architecture (EA) has been an interest of academics and practitioners for few decades, offering one of the most prominent solutions to managing complex organizations…

Kokonaistoksisuuden testauksen soveltuvuus suomalaisten yhdyskuntajätevesien riskinarviointiin ja tarkkailuun
2016
Jätevesissä on monia erilaisia yhdisteitä, joista osa on ympäristölle haitallisia. Kemikaalien yhteisvaikutuksien riskinarviointi ja tarkkailu on mahdotonta pelkkien fysikaalis-kemiallisten testien voimin. Täten onkin kehitelty biologisia menetelmiä, joiden avulla näiden monimuotoisten seosten haitallisuutta voidaan tarkkailla. Vaikka maailmalla jätevesien kokonaistoksisuuden testausta on käytetty jo 1980-luvulta lähtien, menetelmää on toistaiseksi hyödynnetty Suomessa vain vähänlaisesti. Tämän tutkielman tavoitteena oli tutkia kokonaistoksisuuden testauksen soveltuvuutta suomalaisten yhdyskuntajätevesien analysointiin. Biotestien luotettavuutta tarkasteltiin niiden toistettavuutta vertaile…

AbstractTowards the end of the editing process, we started to see the book as something more than a collection of chapters around a theme: as an assemblage, which included, of course, the community of authors. When we put out the first call for contributions in May 2018, most authors volunteered a contribution rather quickly, others joined a bit later, and some dropped out for different reasons, underlining the dynamic nature of our assemblage. In pre-pandemic times, we met on and off campus, introduced some of our ideas at conferences, and had a workshop day to brainstorm, plan chapters, and reflect on the process and the purpose of the book. We were connected by common meals, jokes, writi…
Evaluation of Enterprise IT Architecture Solutions – How can an ICT consultant tell what is best for you?
2003
ICT has become a key business enabler and a competitive factor for enterprises. Enterprise architecture, developed by ICT consultants and ICT end-user organizations, is emerging as the management tool for intertwined business and IT planning. For managerial decisions, there is a need to evaluate the business value of architecture development results, but only a few models for this have so far been presented. Here we present the V-model for EA testing and validation that marks the evaluation points in EA management, and guides which evaluation tools could be used. peerReviewed
