Student-initiated multi-unit questions in EMI classrooms

This conversation analytic study investigates student-initiated multi-unit questions (MUQs) in whole class interaction. Based on a corpus of 30 hours of videotaped interactions from teacher education classrooms in an English-medium instruction university, we demonstrate that students use MUQs to introduce topics, either by recontextualizing some aspect of the prior topic, or alternatively, without these cohesive ties, which requires more interactional work to achieve intersubjectivity. The role of guidance in student engagement with chemistry studies

During recent years, the Department of Chemistry at the University of Jyväskylä has made an extensive effort to support chemistry students’ first study year. The first-year curriculum includes enhanced study counselling course, intensive orientation course and support for academic study skills via a specific course. In this study, the effects of the revisions were studied by exploring the chemistry students study continuation and what factors contributed to it. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on kehittää prediktiivinen malli, jolla ennustetaan Jyväskylän yliopiston matemaattis-luonnontieteellisessä tiedekunnassa lähivuosina suoritettavien luonnontieteiden kandidaatin ja filosofian maisterin tutkintojen lukumääriä. Mallin estimointiin käytettävä aineisto koostuu kolmesta osasta: vuosina 1996–2004 tiedekunnassa aloittaneet opiskelijat, vuosina 2005–2015 tiedekunnassa alemmasta korkeakoulututkinnosta aloittaneet opiskelijat ja vuosina 2005–2016 tiedekunnassa ylemmästä korkeakoulututkinnosta aloittaneet opiskelijat. The CDIO Initiative is going through a process of reconsidering and updating the CDIO approach for engineering education development. Previous work resulted in substantial updates of the twelve CDIO standards and the introduction of “optional” CDIO standards. This paper reports on a similar review and update of the CDIO Syllabus to version 3.0. How they walk the talk : Responsible management education in Finnish business schools

Responsible management education (RME) has become a common initiative in the educational discourse of business schools worldwide. However, little is known about how (non-)engagement with RME in the past influenced the way RME is organised today. We examine this in one of the pioneering countries of RME, Finland, using extensive qualitative research materials. Our results suggest that RME has been embedded with authenticity-driven change (local context and research) since the 1990s. Tutkimukseni tarkoituksena oli tutkia liikunnanohjaajaopiskelijoiden (AMK) seikkailuko-kemuksia kahdella melontaretkellä. Tutkimuksen kohderyhmän muodosti päijäthämäläisen ammattikorkeakoulun liikuntamatkailun ja luontoliikunnan opintoihin suuntautuneet lii-kunnanohjaajaopiskelijat (N=12). Tutkimuksessani tutkin tarkemmin kuuden (n= 6) opiske-lijan kokemuksia laadullisin menetelmin. Tavoitteena oli selvittää millaisia kokemuksia opiskelijat saivat autenttisessa luontoympäristössä.
