Finland offers a specific example of a country with a broad enrolment in higher education, where the educational starting age is relatively high and where studies may last considerably longer than in most other European countries. This study attempted to identify at-risk students in Finnish universities with the greatest probability of non-completion of studies. This probability is by far the highest in the fields of information technology and information sciences and, in specific cases, in the fields of mathematics and science and economics and management. Tutkimukseni tavoitteena on tarkastella Jyväskylän yliopiston maisterivai-heen opintoihin vuosina 2011 ja 2012 sisään otettujen opiskelijoiden kokemuksia ohjauksesta. Tarkastelun kohteena ovat erityisesti opiskelijat, jotka valitaan Jy-väskylän yliopistoon suorittamaan maisteriopintoja perustutkintoihin kuulu-vissa suomenkielisissä pääaineissa, ei siis erillisissä maisteriohjelmissa. Lisäksi kohderyhmän opiskelijat ovat suorittaneet vaadittavat taustaopintonsa jossakin muussa kuin Jyväskylän yliopistossa. The role of guidance in student engagement with chemistry studies

During recent years, the Department of Chemistry at the University of Jyväskylä has made an extensive effort to support chemistry students’ first study year. The first-year curriculum includes enhanced study counselling course, intensive orientation course and support for academic study skills via a specific course. In this study, the effects of the revisions were studied by exploring the chemistry students study continuation and what factors contributed to it. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on kehittää prediktiivinen malli, jolla ennustetaan Jyväskylän yliopiston matemaattis-luonnontieteellisessä tiedekunnassa lähivuosina suoritettavien luonnontieteiden kandidaatin ja filosofian maisterin tutkintojen lukumääriä. Mallin estimointiin käytettävä aineisto koostuu kolmesta osasta: vuosina 1996–2004 tiedekunnassa aloittaneet opiskelijat, vuosina 2005–2015 tiedekunnassa alemmasta korkeakoulututkinnosta aloittaneet opiskelijat ja vuosina 2005–2016 tiedekunnassa ylemmästä korkeakoulututkinnosta aloittaneet opiskelijat. Bullying and social anxiety experiences in university learning situations

This study examines how individuals’ engagement in bullying at school and at university relates to the anxiety they feel in general and in various learning situations in which students interact during their higher education. It was predicted that, of the individuals who have experiences of bullying (in the role of bully, victim, or in a dual role as bully-victim), those who have been subjected to bullying experience more anxiety than do those who have no experience with bullying.
