Abstract Though geographically distant from each other, Portugal and Finland present an interesting comparison concerning the policies and devices of asylum. Both provide an informed and critical appraisal of the current international response to the refugee issue, especially considering the European Union. This article deals with the incidence of multilingualism in the magazines MOTORRAD and Allt om MC and the question of which languages occur. It further examines whether translations or explanations of the foreign terms are given. The analysis shows that in both magazines several languages occur in addition to the German or Swedish of the magazine and that English features most prominently. The second most frequent foreign language found is Italian. Translations and explanations appear in both magazines, but it appears that MOTORRAD more frequently provides translations whereas Allt om MC inclines more to giving explanations. The aim of the study was to investigate intercultural adaptation of occupational immigrants to Finnish working life and culture and identify factors that support or hinder the adaptation process. Due to demographic changes in the society and the increasing number of foreigners in Finnish workplaces, the study of occupational immigration is a very contemporary topic. The study was qualitative in nature. 13 Chinese metal workers were interviewed in small groups using a translator in Mandarin Chinese. Palapelin palat paikoilleen –tutkimuksessa Suomeen muuttaneet maahanmuuttajat kertovat kokemuksistaan kotoutumiskoulutuksesta ja sen kehittämistarpeista. Työssä selvitetään millaista pääomaa kotoutumiskoulutus tarjoaa maahanmuuttajille. Työssä kysytään, onko kotoutumiskoulutuksen antama pääoma laadultaan sellaista, että se auttaa maahanmuuttajia saavuttamaan omat henkilökohtaiset tavoitteensa. Tutkimuksessa kysytään myös, ovatko maahanmuuttajat kokeneet, että koulutus ja ohjaus antavat heille mahdollisuuden rakentaa yhdenvertaisia ja dialogisia suhteita suomalaisen yhteiskunnan jäsenenä.
