The Internet has become an important literacy environment, even for children. Therefore, building the foundations for their critical engagement with online information should start when they first enter school. The effectiveness of leadership development in the military context from a gender viewpoint

In this case study, leadership development is investigated from the viewpoint of women in a military context. In particular, the effectiveness of a leadership development program in a specific context, namely the Finnish Defence Forces, is explored. The program being studied is unique because it is concerned with developing volunteers, not professional soldiers. A longitudinal, interview-based study of the topic was conducted with women who had participated in the program. The data consists of 45 open-ended interviews with 15 women. The aim of this study was to contribute to the understanding of the reasons for low or high academic motivation among practical nursing students at risk of dropping out from vocational education and training. The research data consisted of semi-structured interviews with 14 Finnish students, which were analysed by qualitative content analysis. The analysis identified six motivational sources. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan akateemisen maailman reunaehtoja, joihin väitöskirjatutkijat törmäävät tohtoriopinnoissa sekä sitä, millaisia erilaisia polkuja asiantuntijuuteen reunaehdot viitoittavat. Tohtorikoulutusta asiantuntijuuden rakentumisen kontekstina on aiemmin tarkasteltu eri osa-alueiden, kuten ohjauksen tai rahoituksen, näkökulmasta. Sen sijaan tässä artikkelissa tavoittelemamme holistinen, yksilöllisiä ja systeemisiä ehtoja yhdistävä tarkastelu on ollut vähäistä. Tutkimuksella on neljä päätarkoitusta: selvittää, mitä mediaa opettajat käyttävät alakoulun englannin opetuksessa, miten usein ja mihin tarkoitukseen eri mediaa käytetään sekä mitkä tekijät vaikuttavat opettajien mediavalintoihin. Teoreettisena viitekehyksenä on käytetty käsityksiä oppimisesta ja vieraan kielen opettamisesta. Tutkimuksen keskeisinä käsitteinä ovat media ja pedagogiikka. Tutkimuksessa on kaksi osiota: määrällinen ja laadullinen osio. Määrällinen osio toteutettiin sähköisenä kyselynä, johon vastasi 58 alakoulun englannin opettajaa. Yhteistyötä opettajuuden vahvistamiseksi

Toimiessani tutkijana ja professorina Jyväskylän yliopistossa lähes neljän vuosikymmenen ajan minulla oli ilo tutustua ja tehdä yhteistyötä myös monien Ammatillisen opettajakorkeakoulun kollegoiden kanssa. Aikanaan tämä ei ollut lainkaan niin itsestään selvää. Oppilaitosten reviirit olivat varsin selkeärajaisia ja naapuri nähtiin pikemminkin kilpailijana kuin mahdollisuutena yhteistyön kautta vahvistaa omaa asiantuntemusta. Nykyinen tilanne on täysin toinen, mistä mainiona esimerkkinä muun muassa Jyväskylän EduFutura. nonPeerReviewed
