In autumn 2021, Covid-19 still has effect on our daily living and our possibilities to conduct everyday life practices such as work and studies. Current realities of ‘new normality’, based on remote work and restrictions of social activities, for example, are grounded on the vast changes that occurred when the pandemic began. In this text we take a look back to the period of school closures in Finland, and their effect on families’ daily practices related to children’s well-being and school work. Tämä pro gradu –tutkielma pohjautuu Jyväskylän yliopiston ”Oppiminen ja motivaatio” - hankkeen ”Alkuportaat – Lapset, vanhemmat ja opettajat yhteistyössä koulutien alussa” - seurantatutkimukseen. Tutkimuksen aineisto kerättiin vuosina 2011 lasten ollessa neljännellä luokalla. Tutkittavia äitejä oli 125. Tutkimuksessa oltiin kiinnostuneita siitä, millaisia huolenaiheita äideillä oli liittyen lapsen koulunkäyntiin. Huolenaiheita kysyttiin kyselylomakkeella. Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the trends between 2002 and 2018 in school pressure and school satisfaction among 15-year-old students, across countries and by gender, in the WHO European region and North America, and explore whether there are variations between countries and by gender in the co-occurrence of school pressure and school satisfaction. Objective The aim of the present study was to investigate the extent to which initial levels and changes in ninth-grade adolescents' (n = 243) psychological well-being were associated with their school engagement after the transition to upper secondary education. Oppilaiden osallisuus oman oppimisensa suunnittelussa on yksi oppimisen ja koulunkäynnin tuen lähtökohdista. Tästä huolimatta ei ole juurikaan tutkittu, miltä tuen suunnittelu sekä siihen liittyvät palaverit ja asiakirjat näyttävät oppilaiden näkökulmasta. Case study of Adumanu M/A and Ayaasi D/A primary schools

This study seeks to investigate the school leadership views on the impact of the Ghana National School Feeding Programme (GNSFP). The qualitative methodology was utilized. The data were collected with semi-structured focus group interviews in two primary schools. The informants were members of the five leadership groups of each school. Thematic coding and network analysis were used to answer the three research questions. The results reveal that the school feeding programme has a positive impact on school enrolment, attendance and retention as well as heath issues such as the nutrition quality improving cognitive skills, and minimizing HIV/Aids. Student engagement in Finnish lower secondary school

This thesis examined the engagement of students at lower secondary schools in Finland. Two independent cross-sectional data sets collected in 2010 (N = 821) and 2013 (N = 2485) were analyzed using both variable-centered and personcentered methods. The thesis analyzed the associations between teacher– student relationships, family support for students’ learning, peer support at school, control and relevance of school work, students’ future aspirations and goals, school burnout, behavior at school, and truancy from school.
