Transpoliittinen postdemokratia : Jean Baudrillardin poliittinen teoria ja sen relevanssi demokratian kriisin selittämisessä
2016
Tämän tutkielman aiheena on ranskalaisen sosiologin ja filosofin Jean Baudrillardin (1929–2007) poliittinen teoria. Tutkielmassa tarkastellaan Baudrillardin kulutusyhteiskuntaa, simulaatiota ja massoja koskevaa analyysiä poliittisena teoriana, joka on liitettävissä demokratian kriisiytymistä koskevaan keskusteluun. Tutkielma tarkastelee Baudrillardin tekstejä uudesta näkökulmasta, sillä Baudrillardia ei tyypillisesti lueta politiikan teoreetikkona, vaan hänet tunnetaan marxilaisesta kapitalismin kritiikistä sekä semioottisesta simulaation teoriastaan. Tutkielmassa perehdytään Baudrillardin laajassa tuotannossa esiin tuotuihin kulttuuriin ja yhteiskunnallisiin muutoksiin ja argumentoidaan nä…

Rethinking validity in qualitative sport and exercise psychology research: a realist perspective
2019
Over the last two decades, the relativist approach has significantly shaped debates about the quality and rigour of qualitative research in sport and exercise psychology (SEP). In the absence of any published critiques of relativism in SEP, this paper problematises its central claims with a focus on the most recent contribution offered by Smith and McGannon (2018 Smith, B., & McGannon, K. R. (2018). Developing rigor in qualitative research: Problems and opportunities within sport and exercise psychology. International Review of Sport and Exercise Psychology, 11, 101–121. doi: 10.1080/1750984X.2017.1317357[Taylor & Francis Online], [Web of Science ®], , [Google Scholar]. Developing rigor in …
Sosiaalisessa mediassa urheilijoihin yhä enenevissä määrin kohdistuva virtuaalinen seksuaalinen häirintä on viime aikoina huolestuttanut tutkijoita. nonPeerReviewed

Political community resilience in declining rural areas in Finland
2021
Abstract In this article, we study how declining rural communities build political resilience in Finland. Community resilience is an adaptive process through which rural communities try to maintain their viability in changed circumstances. This process does not entail a submissive attitude, but rather active agency and an effort to influence matters concerning the community’s well-being. We focus on the political dimension of resilience by identifying different local tactics that rural communities adopt to promote their own development following municipal mergers. We classify these tactics into three categories: cooperation, conflict and community-led development. The significant difference…
Sport Coaches Burnout as a Threat to Professional Success, Mental Health and Well-Being
2021
The article explores motivational and personality predictors of burnout syndrome in sports coaches. The study involved 183 sports coaches of 20–63 years old (86.9% women; M=41.34±10.56 years), with professional experience for 13.83±9.98 years. Three components of professional burnout ― Emotional exhaustion, Depersonification and Reduction of professional achievements ― were measured with the adapted Maslach professional burnout inventory (Vodopyanova, et al 2008). Motivational aspects were measured with the adapted Ryan and Connell Professional Motivation inventory (Osin et al, 2017). Personal resources ― stress resistance, authenticity and coping strategies ― were measured with the adapted…

Resistance Training Induces Antiatherogenic Effects on Metabolomic Pathways
2019
Introduction: Arising evidence suggests that resistance training has the potential to induce beneficial modulation of biomarker profile. To date, however, only immediate responses to resistance training have been investigated using high-throughput metabolomics whereas the effects of chronic resistance training on biomarker profile have not been studied in detail. Methods: A total of 86 recreationally active healthy men without previous systematic resistance training background were allocated into i) a resistance training (RT) group (n=68, age 33 ± 7 years, body mass index (BMI) 28 ± 3 kg/m2 ) and ii) a non-RT group (n=18, age 31 ± 4 years, BMI 27 ± 3 kg/m2 ). Blood samples were collected at…
Big vs powerful : molecular signalling responses to hypertrophic and power resistance exercise modalities
2015
Introduction: The effects of resistance exercise (RE) loading on molecular signalling proteins, including those involved in protein translation and thus skeletal muscle hypertrophy have been extensively studied. However, there is little research on high power RE loading and molecular signalling proteins, and also on possible relationships between signalling proteins and recovery from RE loading. Methods: 7 young men (31±6 years, 178.9±4cms, 84.6±5 kgs) performed 1 hypertrophy loading session (HYP) (5x10 80% 1RM leg presses (LP)) and 1 power loading session (POW) (10x5 70% 1RM LP), with each session separated by 7 days, in a crossover design, prior and subsequent to 12 weeks of resistance tr…
