Understanding Crowdturfing : The Different Ethical Logics Behind the Clandestine Industry of Deception

Crowdturfing, the dark side and usually unnoticed face of crowdsourcing, represents a form of cyber-deception in which workers are paid to express a false digital impression. While such behavior may not be punishable under the jurisdiction of formal law, its consequences are destructive to the cohesion and trustworthiness of online information. The conceptual work at hand examines the current literature on the topic, and lays the foundation for a theoretical framework that explains crowdturfing behavior. In his seminal work on social contract theory, Leviathan, Thomas Hobbes described the anarchic pre-societal condition of the state of nature. In this predicament – aptly named as “the war of all against all” – people lived poor, short and brutish lives. The dystopian world simulated in the survival horror game DayZ mirrors this natural state of man. The game invites players to roleplay survivors of a zombie apocalypse. The present paper examines the factors contributing to pervasive violence, moral ambiguity and degeneration of human condition, which are prominent features of DayZ’s gameplay. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan suomalaista yrityksen ympäristövastuuta, jota havainnollistetaan yritysesimerkin, Keskon, kautta. Peruskysymyksenä on: Mitä on suomalaisen yrityksen ympäristövastuu ja mitkä tekijät siihen vaikuttavat. Ongelmaa lähestytään suomalaisen yhteiskunnan ympäristötietoisuuden leviämisen; etiikan ja moraalin roolin liike-elämässä; ympäristö- ja yhteiskuntavastuun sekä esimerkkiyritys Keskon kautta. Ympäristöasioista viestiminen on yhä tärkeämpi osa organisaatioiden viestintää. Ympäristöviestinnän kannalta satama-ala on erittäin mielenkiintoinen, koska satamatoiminta nähdään usein saastuttavana kuljetusmuotona. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa, mitä on ympäristöviestintä satamissa sekä vertailla suomalaisten ja muiden pohjoisen Euroopan satamien ympäristöviestintää. Tutkimustulosten toivottiin olevan hyödyllisiä suomalaisten satamien ympäristöviestinnän kehittämisessä.
