Tutkimuksessani tarkastelen nk. venäläistä kansalaisyhteiskuntaa (eng. civil society), jonka moderni syntyhistoria ajoittuu 1990-luvun alkupuoliskolle. On huomattava, ettei akateemisessa keskustelussa vallitse yksimielisyyttä koko ilmiön olemassaolosta Venäjällä: omassa työssäni viittaan termillä kansalaisten itsensä organisoimaan yhdistystoimintaan, erotuksena Neuvostoliiton perinteitä jatkavista valtion valvomista ja holhoamista massajärjestöistä. Tarkasteluni eivät kuitenkaan keskity koko yhdistystoiminnan laajaan kirjoon, vaan suuntaan katseeni kommunismin jälkeisen Venäjän naisjärjestöihin, nk. uuteen venäläiseen naisliikkeeseen. AbstractUtilizing such concepts as “colonial complicity” and “colonialism without colonies”, this chapter examines the case of Finns and Finland as a nation that was once oppressed but also itself complicit in colonialism.
