This chapter reviews the appraisal theory of emotion and how it has been employed in human–computer interaction (HCI) research. This theory views emotion as a process that evaluates the subjective significance of an event. We demonstrate the usefulness of the perspective for HCI, as emotion is defined in terms of the events of the task environment and the goals and knowledge of the subject. Importantly, the appraisal theory ties these factors together in a cognitive appraisal process order to explain the variety of subjective emotional experiences. This is important for two reasons. Humans are able to synchronize with musical events whilst coordinating their movements with others. Interpersonal entrainment phenomena, such as dance, involve multiple body parts and movement directions. Along with being multidimensional, dance movement interaction is plurifrequential, since it can occur at different frequencies simultaneously. Conversational systems have become increasingly popular as a way for humans to interact with computers. To be able to provide intelligent responses, conversational systems must correctly model the structure and semantics of a conversation. We introduce the task of measuring semantic (in)coherence in a conversation with respect to background knowledge, which relies on the identification of semantic relations between concepts introduced during a conversation. Chatbot technology is increasingly emerging as a virtual assistant. Chatbots could allow individuals and organizations to accomplish objectives that are currently not fully optimized for collaboration across an intergenerational context. This paper explores the preferences of chatbots as a companion in intergenerational innovation. The Q methodology was used to investigate different types of collaborators and determine how different choices occur between collaborators that merge the problem and solution domains of chatbots’ design within intergenerational settings. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena on kuvata ja ymmärtää Suomen vanhimman ympäristöjärjestön, Suomen luonnonsuojeluliiton Facebook-viestintää sen aktiivisuuden, viestintäfunktioiden ja niiden aiheuttamien reaktioiden kautta. Tutkimuksessa käytettiin kahta aineistoa, Luonnonsuojeluliiton Facebook-tilapäivityksiä kommentteineen ja tykkäyksineen kuukauden ajalta vuosilta 2010 ja 2015. Samalla saatiin siis myös kuva siitä, miten Luonnonsuojeluliiton viestintä on tutkittavien seikkojen osalta muuttunut viidessä vuodessa. Tässä puheviestinnän pro gradu -tutkielmassa tarkasteltiin yhteiskunnallista aktiivisuutta kuntapoliittisessa Facebook-ryhmässä. Tutkielman tavoitteena oli kuvata ja ymmärtää ajankohtaisen ja aktiivisen kansalaisosallistumisen teknologisen muodon, kuntapoliittisen Facebook-ryhmän vuorovaikutuksen ominaispiirteitä. Tämän puheviestinnän maisterintutkielman tavoitteena oli tuottaa uutta tietoa siitä, miten ja mihin tarkoitukseen suomalainen kansalaisjärjestö käyttää Facebookia. Tutkielma toteutettiin laadullisena tutkimuksena. Tutkimustavoitetta lähestyttiin analysoimalla, millaisia vuorovaikutuksen funktioita löytyi kansalaisjärjestön julkiselta Facebook-sivulta ja suljetusta ryhmästä sekä sitä, miten niistä löydetyt tulokset erosivat toisistaan. Tutkimuskohteena oli suomalainen kansalaisjärjestö, jonka jäseninä on kaikenikäisiä suomalaisia. Children with conduct disorders are at risk of being positioned in the family therapy as ‘the problem’. This study describes how the difficulties were talked about and how the child coped in this situation. The results showed: the parents produced symptom-oriented problem talk about the child’s behavior, rendering systemic reformulation of the problem challenging. The negative interaction made the climate unsafe and impaired consideration of the child’s behavior as a meaningful way for the child to become seen and heard. This study enriches understanding of the therapeutic challenge therapists face with high-risk families from the very beginning of the treatment. peerReviewed
‘Can I tell?’ : Children’s participation and positioning in a secretive atmosphere in family therapy

As a multifaceted phenomenon, family secrets affect interaction in the therapeutic system. This qualitative study, applying the multi‐actor Dialogical Methods for Investigations of Happening of Change, explored how children participated and positioned themselves in family therapy in a climate of family secrets. The results showed that the children were active co‐participants in the complex dynamics of a secretive atmosphere, involving themselves in the paradoxical processes of reconstructing and deconstructing the secretive and unsafe climate.
