On application of kernel PCA for generating stimulus features for fMRI during continuous music listening
2018
Background There has been growing interest towards naturalistic neuroimaging experiments, which deepen our understanding of how human brain processes and integrates incoming streams of multifaceted sensory information, as commonly occurs in real world. Music is a good example of such complex continuous phenomenon. In a few recent fMRI studies examining neural correlates of music in continuous listening settings, multiple perceptual attributes of music stimulus were represented by a set of high-level features, produced as the linear combination of the acoustic descriptors computationally extracted from the stimulus audio. New method fMRI data from naturalistic music listening experiment were…
Brain integrative function driven by musical training during real-world music listening
2017
The present research investigated differences in the brain dynamics of continuous, real-world music listening between listeners with and without professional musical training, using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). A replication study was aimed at validating the reliability of the naturalistic approach to studying brain responses to music, wherein the brain signal and the acoustic information extracted from the musical stimulus were correlated. After a successful replication, a series of three studies dealt with differences in integrative brain function during music listening between musicians and nonmusicians. Findings (a) emphasized the crucial role of the distinctive postura…
Nomen est omen : kirjoittaja oppimassa nimien symboliikkaa Alice Munron novelleista
2021
Analysoin otantaa Mu…
Processing of an Audiobook in the Human Brain Is Shaped by Cultural Family Background

We studied whether and how cultural family background may shape the processing of an audiobook in the human brain. During functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), 48 healthy volunteers from two different cultural family backgrounds listened to an audi…
DeepFake knee osteoarthritis X-rays from generative adversarial neural networks deceive medical experts and offer augmentation potential to automatic…
2022
Recent developments in deep learning have impacted medical science. However, new privacy issues and regulatory frameworks have hindered medical data sharing and collection. Deep learning is a very data-intensive process for which such regulatory limitations limit the potential for new breakthroughs and collaborations. However, generating medically accurate synthetic data can alleviate privacy issues and potentially augment deep learning pipelines. This study presents generative adversarial neural networks capable of generating realistic images of knee joint X-rays with varying osteoarthritis severity. We offer 320,000 synthetic (DeepFake) X-ray images from training with 5,556 real images. W…

Spatial belonging is understood as a multidimensional process in which pictorial representation of the environment also plays an important role. However, various intersecting discursive and personal dimensions in the relations between images, photography and spatial belonging make researching the topic quite challenging. This article focuses on a methodology that combines photo-elicitation and visual analysis to elucidate the relations between images and spatial belonging, and to explore the ways in which the mental images created by discursive landscape imagery can affect the formation of people’s place relations and feelings of spatial belonging. The article draws from a research project …

Voimauttava video : asiakaslähtöisyyden, myönteisyyden ja videokuvan muodostama työorientaatio perhetyön menetelmänä
2008
Mannerheimin Lastensuojeluliitto toi videoavusteisen perheohjausmenetelmän (VHT) Hollannista Suomeen 1990-luvun alkupuolella.
