This is a transcription of the beginning of Walter Burley’s (c. 1275–after 1344) commentary on Aristotle’s Politics (book one, tractate one, chapter one). The transcription reproduces the text of Vatican, MS Borgh. 129, fol. 1r–148v (here fol. 2rb–6va), which has been accessed in a high quality digital reproduction in colour. The commentary has been dated between 1338/39 and 1342. The transcription includes two apparatuses. The first of them is dedicated to references, mainly to Aristotle’s Politics. Poggio Bracciolini’s last work, the Historiae Florentini populi, was edited and dedicated to Federico di Montefeltro by Jacopo di Poggio in 1472. Jacopo also translated the work into the volgare and had it printed in Venice in 1476. In the light of the manuscript tradition, Jacopo’s editorial changes were more considerable than has hitherto been thought. The propagation of his edition and translation would seem to be intimately connected with his political aspirations ending in his unfortunate participation in the Pazzi conspiracy of 1478. peerReviewed

The impact of the modalities of book production on the transmission of texts is still often ignored by editors of texts with little interest in book history, including palaeography, codicology, and library history. The subsequent media revolutions (passage from the rotulus to the codex form, introduction of the Carolingian minuscule, invention of the art of printing, and so on) have, however, deeply influenced what was transmitted and in what form. This chapter will outline the development of book production and collection from Antiquity to the modern period. peerReviewed

Dokumenttielokuvan onnistuminen on kiinni aihevalinnan lisäksi siitä, millainen on elokuvan käsikirjoitus ja narraatio, kuinka luontevia haastateltavia löydetään, miten kuvaukset onnistuvat ja miltä kaikki yhdessä näyttää editointipöydällä. Tässä tutkimuksessa käydään kriittisen analyysin ja itsereflektion kautta läpi ensimmäisen kokopitkän dokumenttielokuvan syntymistä tuottaja-käsikirjoittajan näkökulmasta. Tutkielman tavoitteena on kuvata dokumenttielokuvan tekoprosessia vaihe vaiheelta ongelmineen ja tulkintoineen niin yksityiskohtaisesti, että kuka tahansa pystyisi toteuttamaan vastaavanlaisen projektin.
