In this thesis, two bucephalid trematode parasites Rhipidocotyle campanula and R. fennica, which use the same first (Anodonta anatina) and second intermediate (Rutilus rutilus) host were studied. Nevertheless, a comprehensive understanding of the joint effects of lake trophic status, nutrient dynamics and warming on the availability of these biomolecules is lacking. Relationships of temperature and biodiversity with stability of natural aquatic food webs

Temperature and biodiversity changes occur in concert, but their joint effects on ecological stability of natural food webs are unknown. Here, we assess these relationships in 19 planktonic food webs. We estimate stability as structural stability (using the volume contraction rate) and temporal stability (using the temporal variation of species abundances). Warmer temperatures were associated with lower structural and temporal stability, while biodiversity had no consistent effects on either stability property. Sauna bath brings about numerous acute changes in hormone levels, partly akin to other stressful situations, partly specific for sauna. Norepinephrine increases in those accustomed to sauna bath. Sweating increases the production of antidiuretic hormone, and the renin-angiotensin system becomes activated. Of the anterior pituitary hormones, growth hormone (GH) and prolactin (PRL) secretion is increased. Also β-endorphin has been frequently reported to increase, whereas the responses of ACTH and cortisol are variable, probably depending on the type of sauna exposure. Sari Luostarinen tutki väitöstyössään hajautettua anaerobista jätevesien käsittelyä alhaisissa lämpötiloissa (10-20 °C). Anaerobinen käsittely mahdollistaa sekä jätemateriaalin stabiloinnin, uusiutuvan energian tuotannon metaanina ja/tai vetynä että arvokkaiden yhdisteiden, kuten ravinteiden, uudelleenkäytön. Luostarisen mukaan käsittely voidaan toteuttaa hajautettuna kiinteistö- tai kyläkohtaisissa prosesseissa. Mikäli ravinteiden uudelleenkäyttö ei ole mahdollista, esimerkiksi hygieniamääräyksien vuoksi, ja ravinteiden poistoa vaaditaan, se voidaan toteuttaa aerobisessa jälkikäsittelyprosessissa.
