Quantification of cortical proprioceptive processing through a wireless and miniaturized EEG amplifier.
2022
Corticokinematic coherence (CKC) is computed between limb kinematics and cortical activity (e.g. MEG, EEG), and it can be used to detect, quantify and localize the cortical processing of proprioceptive afference arising from the body. EEG-based studies on CKC have been limited to lab environments due to bulky, non-portable instrumentations. We recently proposed a wireless and miniaturized EEG acquisition system aimed at enabling EEG studies outside the laboratory. The purpose of this work is to compare the EEG-based CKC values obtained with this device with a conventional wired-EEG acquisition system to validate its use in the quantification of cortical proprioceptive processing. Eleven hea…
Laboratoriotöiden tavoitteiden saavuttaminen fysiikan perus- ja aineopintokursseilla : kvantitatiivinen tutkimus opiskelijoiden kokemuksista
2017
Opiskelijat vastasivat kyselyyn vapaaehtoisesti suoritettuaan jonkin laboratoriotyön. Kerätyn aineiston pohjalta (\(N=154\) ) analysoitiin kvantitatiivisesti opiskelijoiden kokemuksia kehittymisestä viidessä keskeisessä laboratoriotyön tavoitteessa. Tämän lisäksi aineistosta etsittiin koettuun hyötyyn yhteydessä olevia taustamuuttujia moniluokitteluanalyysillä (MCA). Saatujen tulosten perusteella opiskelijat …
Versailles project on advanced materials and standards (VAMAS) interlaboratory study on measuring the number concentration of colloidal gold nanopart…
2022
The advancement of analytical methods for nanoparticle measurements is critical both for the growing industrial exploitation of engineered nanoparticles and for developing robust strategies to understand and control the concentration of nanomaterials in humans and the environment. For high value nanoparticles, the measurement of nanoparticle number concentration in a liquid directly impacts the ability to assess the scale and reproducibility of the production process, it allows optimisation of efficiency and supports regulatory compliance. This measurement is also useful to monitor and control the intentional or accidental release of engineered nanoparticles into the environment at the produc…
DigiPhysLab : kokeellista fysiikkaa kännykällä
2023
Koronapandemia pakotti yliopistot ympäri maailman muuttamaan toimintatapojaan ja siirtymään etäopetukseen sukupolvelle ennennäkemättömässä laajuudessa. Erityisesti kokeellisen fysiikan kurssien osalta pakotettu etätyöskentely tuli useimmille fysiikan laitoksille puskista, eikä valmista toimivaa ratkaisua kokeellisen työskentelyn tekemiseen muualla kuin kampuksen laboratoriotilassa ollut. nonPeerReviewed
DigiPhysLab : Digital Physics Laboratory Work for Distance Learning
2022
Pursuing a broad range of learning objectives, effective physics laboratory courses need conducive-to-learning, motivating, and engaging experimental tasks. The Covid-19 pandemic has further increased the demand for quality experimental tasks which can also be used in online learning scenarios. The EU-funded DigiPhysLab-project meets this need by developing a set of 15 competence-centred experimental tasks which can be implemented by instructors effortlessly in their own lab courses, independent of whether they are held on-campus or in distance learning. For this, the project utilizes the broad availability of digital technologies like smartphones which allow an inexpensive data collection …
Initialization of the JYFLTRAP system
2013
The IGISOL facility has been moved into a new location at the acceleration laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä. The superconducting magnet that is part of the JYFLTRAP system has been re-energized. In this thesis a commissioning of the Penning trap apparatus JYFLTRAP is described. This involves a precise alignment of the structure of the trap along field lines of strong solenoid field. The alignment was completed successfully with a special alignment device. In addition, some improvements were done for the Penning traps and transfer line from RFQ cooler, and a buncher to the injection of Penning traps was built during this project. Jyväskylän yliopiston IGISOL-ryhmän laboratorio on mu…
DNA recovery from Droplet Digital™ PCR emulsions using liquid nitrogen
2020
Droplet microfluidics is a technology that enables the production and manipulation of small volumes. In biosciences, the most popular application of this technology is Droplet Digital™ PCR (ddPCR™), where parallel nanoliter-scale PCR assays are used to provide a high sensitivity and specificity for DNA detection. However, the recovery of PCR products for downstream applications such as sequencing can be challenging due to the droplets' stability. Here we compared five methods for disrupting the droplets to recover DNA. We found that rapid freezing in liquid nitrogen results in a clear phase separation and recovery of up to 70% of the DNA content. Liquid nitrogen freezing can thus offer a si…

Radioaktiivisten jätteiden kartoitus kiihdytinlaboratoriossa
2011
Student experiences of project-based learning in an analytical chemistry laboratory course in higher education
2020
Abstract This study describes students’ experiences in project-based learning (PjBL) incorporated as part of a revised undergraduate analytical chemistry laboratory course. We examined which phases were the easiest as well as the most challenging and what student skills developed during the research project. The research data were collected between 2016 and 2018 via two questionnaires. They were analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. One questionnaire focused on the whole course (in 2016–2018, n = 127) of which only the answers on the research project questions were analyzed. The other questionnaire focused on only the research project (in 2018, n = 42). Based on the results of our…
