A Planar Generator for a Wave Energy Converter

2019

This article presents a permanent magnet planar translational generator which is able to exploit multiple modes of sea wave energy extraction. Linear electrical generators have recently been studied for the exploitation of sea wave energy, but, to the best of our knowledge, no synchronous planar translational generator has been proposed. In this article, to maximize the energy extraction, we have considered all the potential modes of motion due to wave excitation and included them within the mathematical model of the proposed system. The principle of operation of the generator can be summarized as follows: the moving part (translator) of the generator is driven from the sea waves and induce…

Planar Benzo[1,2-b:4,5-b′]dithiophene Derivatives Decorated with Nitronyl and Imino Nitroxides

2018

Four weakly antiferromagnetic interacting biradicals of benzo[1,2- b:4,5- b']dithiophene (BDT) and BDT extended with two thiophenes (BDTTh2) linked with nitronyl and imino nitroxides (NN and IN) as BDT-NN, BDT-IN, BDTTh2-NN, and BDTTh2-IN were designed, synthesized, and characterized. Short intermolecular π-π distances were found (3.42 A) for BDT-NN, whereas larger ones were found for BDT-IN (3.54 A) and BDTTh2-NN (3.67 A), respectively. Intramolecular magnetic interaction ( Jintra,exp/ kB) of BDT-NN (-26 K) is much larger than for BDT-IN (-5.3 K), while it is reduced for the dithiophene-extended molecule BDTTh2-NN (-2.3 K). Intermolecular interactions ( zJinter,exp/ kB) of BDT-NN (-6.5 K) …

Dicopper(II) pyrazolenophanes: Ligand effects on their structures and magnetic properties

2016

Abstract The use of simple pyrazolate anions and related polychelating acyclic or macrocyclic pyrazolate derivatives as bridging ligands, and occasionally additional blocking ligands, has led to the stereospecific Cu II -mediated self-assembly of both homo- and heteroleptic di-μ-pyrazolatodicopper(II) complexes of the metallacyclophane type, so-called dicopper(II) pyrazolenophanes. Besides their unique molecular conformation features and binding abilities toward both neutral molecules and charged anionic species, which have illustrated the putative role of weak intramolecular π–π stacking, hydrogen bonding, and coordinative interactions in the self-assembling process, dicopper(II) pyrazolen…

High‐resolution stimulated Raman spectroscopy and analysis of line positions and assignments for the ν 2 and ν 3 bands of 13 C 2 H 4

2016

High-resolution stimulated Raman spectra of13C2H4 in the regions of the ν2 and ν3 Raman active modes have been recorded at two temperatures (145 and 296 K) based on the quasi continuous-wave (cw) stimulated Raman spectrometer at Instituto de Estructura de la Materia IEM-CSIC in Madrid. A tensorial formalism adapted to X2Y4 planar asymmetric tops with D2h symmetry (developed in Dijon) and a program suite called D2hTDS (now part of the XTDS/SPVIEW spectroscopic software) were proposed to analyze and calculate the high-resolution spectra. A total of 103 and 51 lines corresponding to ν2 and ν3 Raman active modes have been assigned and fitted in wavenumber with a global root mean square deviatio…

Evaluating ice fabrics using fabric analyser techniques in Sørsdal Glacier, East Antarctica

2011

AbstractIce cores (∼4 m long) obtained from areas of different surface velocities near the terminus of Sørsdal Glacier, East Antarctica, have been investigated using two versions of a fabric analyser (G50). In sections parallel to the flow plane, the microstructure is typically interlocking with elongate grains that parallel air-bubble elongation, X, reflecting their development in an earlier ductile regime. The c-axis fabric patterns vary with respect to X and vary from single–double maxima to asymmetric small-circle girdles oblique to the planar foliation, which can be attributed to a simple shear regime. The siteto-site variations in the c-axis patterns can be related to areas of differe…

First report of Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus affecting zucchini squash in an important horticultural area of southern Italy

2016

Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV) is a bipartite begomovirus (family Geminiviridae) which infects species in the families Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae (Padidam et al., 1995; Mizutani et al., 2011). Begomoviruses are transmitted by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci in a persistent manner (Rosen et al., 2015). In October 2015, severe symptoms not previously reported by growers in the horticultural area of the Province of Trapani (Sicily, Italy) were observed on zucchini squash (Cucurbita pepo) in open fields. The symptoms included yellow mosaic, severe leaf curling, swelling of veins of young leaves, shortening of internodes, roughness of the skin of fruit and reduced fruit size; the sympt…

Expression of miR159 Is Altered in Tomato Plants Undergoing Drought Stress.

2019

In a scenario of global climate change, water scarcity is a major threat for agriculture, severely limiting crop yields. Therefore, alternatives are urgently needed for improving plant adaptation to drought stress. Among them, gene expression reprogramming by microRNAs (miRNAs) might offer a biotechnologically sound strategy. Drought-responsive miRNAs have been reported in many plant species, and some of them are known to participate in complex regulatory networks via their regulation of transcription factors involved in water stress signaling. We explored the role of miR159 in the response of Solanum lycopersicum Mill. plants to drought stress by analyzing the expression of sly-miR159 and …

Evolutionary diversification of type-2 HDAC structure, function and regulation in Nicotiana tabacum

2018

Ministère de l'Education Nationale et de la Recherche ; Conseil Régional de Bourgogne (PARI AGRALE8) ; Association pour la Recherche sur les Nicotianacées ; Conseil Régional de Bourgogne; International audience; Type-2 HDACs (HD2s) are plant-specific histone deacetylases that play diverse roles during development and in responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study we characterized the six tobacco genes encoding HD2s that mainly differ by the presence or the absence of a typical zinc finger in their C-terminal part. Of particular interest, these HD2 genes exhibit a highly conserved intron/exon structure. We then further investigated the phylogenetic relationships among the HD2 gen…

Oxylipin mediated stress response of a miraculin-like protease inhibitor in Hexanoic acid primed eggplant plants infested by Colorado potato beetle

2017

Insect-plant interactions are governed by a complex equilibrium between the mechanisms through which plant recognize insect attack and orchestrate downstream signaling events that trigger plant defense responses, and the mechanisms by which insects overcome plant defenses. Due to this tight and dynamic interplay, insight into the nature of the plant defense response can be gained by analyzing changes in the insect herbivores digestive system upon plant feeding. In this work we have identified a Solanum melongena miraculin-like protease inhibitor in the midgut juice of Colorado potato larvae feeding on eggplant plants treated with the natural inducer of plant defenses hexanoic acid. We analy…
