Objective To determine if ultrastructural tissue trauma occurs in the junctional zone in uteri in adenomyosis. Design A case-control experimental study. Setting Endometriosis research center. Patient(s) Twelve uteri with adenomyosis, and 9 uteri without adenomyosis, were gained during laparoscopy-assisted vaginal hysterectomy. Physical barriers are the only licensed adjuncts for adhesion prophylaxis in the United States and Europe. Here, we investigate D,L-polylactide-epsilon-caprolactonetrimethylenecarbonate (PCT copolymer), which is a rationally designed biomaterial, as an adhesion barrier.PCT copolymer membranes were produced by polymerization of the monomers, dissolution in organic solvents, and subsequently processing them by means of modified phase inversion and freeze drying. Because of postmenopausal complaints she had been undergoing estrogen therapy for the past five years. AbstractRobotic surgery is gaining importance in complex thoracoscopic surgery, such as robotic-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE). The RAMIE procedure was designed using the first generation of the robotic system. The latest da Vinci Xi system has substantially increased the dexterity, especially designed for multiquadrant surgery. The original three-arm RAMIE approach was modified including the robotic four-arm use for the thoracoscopic and laparoscopic part of the operation. This extended approach (four-arm RAMIE approach) provides more flexibility and raises the independence of the surgeon.

Uniportal thoracoscopy combined with laparoscopy as minimally invasive treatment of esophageal cancer

A 67-year-old man was referred to our attention for management of esophageal adenocarcinoma, localized at the level of the esophagogastric junction and obstructed the 1/3 of the esophageal lumen. Due to the extension of the disease (T3N1M0-Stage IIIA), the patient underwent neo-adjuvant chemo-radiation therapy and he was then scheduled for a minimally invasive surgical procedure including laparoscopic gastroplasty, uniportal thoracoscopic esophageal dissection and intrathoracic end-to-end esophago-gastric anastomosis. Laparoscopic Treatment of Endoscopic Sigmoid Colon Perforation

Perforation of the colon after colonoscopy is a rare but potentially lethal complication. It usually occurs when endoscopy is performed for therapeutic purposes. In these cases the election of the best treatment is difficult and still controversial. Laparoscopy is a new approach for diagnosis and treatment of this condition. We report a case of a patient who was initially treated laparoscopically after a colonoscopic perforation. A postoperative leak was detected and the patient underwent open surgery. Possible therapeutic approaches and a literature review are discussed.

Laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy in Italy: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: The use of laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy (LDP) increased in the past twenty years but the real diffusion of this technique is still unknown as well as the type of centers (high or low volume) in which this procedure is more frequently performed. DATA SOURCE: A systematic review was performed to evaluate the frequency of LDP in Italy and to compare indications and results in high volume centers (HVCs) and in low volume centers (LVCs). RESULTS: From 95 potentially relevant citations identified, only 5 studies were included. A total of 125 subjects were analyzed, of whom 95 (76.0%) were from HVCs and 30 (24.0%) from LVCs.
