Rhinocylapoides brachypterus, a new cylapine genus and species from Malaysia (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae)

Rhinocylapoides brachypterus gen. et sp. nov. is described from Malaysia. Illustrations of the male genitalia, color photographs of the adult, and a habitat photograph of specimens of the new genus are provided.

Tämä pro gradu -tutkielma kertoo Seppo Jokivartion tarinan. Seppo soti ensin talvisodassa, sitten jatkosodassa ja osallistui vielä Tornion maihinnousuun. Lapin sodan ensimmäisen taistelupäivän iltana Seppo jäi viiden muun suomalaisen sotilaan kanssa saksalaisten sotavangiksi hieman Torniosta pohjoiseen. Sotavankien kertoman perusteella saksalaiset kohtelivat suomalaisia kuin eläimiä. Osoitan nämä kertomukset uskottaviksi tarkastelemalla saksalaista sotavankijärjestelmää yleisellä tasolla. Ei ole mitään syytä olettaa, että petetyksi ja yllätetyksi tulleet saksalaiset olisivat kohdelleet suomalaisia sotavankeja yhtään sen hellemmin kuin muitakaan järjestelmänsä piiriin joutuneita. Pro gradu -tutkielmani käsittelee Kuusamon kansakouluverkon rakentamista Lapin sodan jälkeisinä vuosina 1945–1955. Kuusamo koki viime sodissa suuret sotatuhot, joten sotien päätyttyä kunnassa alkoi mittava jälleenrakentaminen. Sotien jälkeen Kuusamossa ei ollut yhtään koulutaloa, joka ei olisi kokenut jonkin asteisia sotavaurioita, joten kunnan kansakouluverkkoa jouduttiin rakentamaan lähes tyhjältä pohjalta. Tarkastelen pro gradussani, miten kansakouluverkko jälleenrakennettiin ja miten sitä laajennettiin jokaisen lapsen ulottuville Kuusamossa. Kuusamo kuului Suomen harvaan asutuimpiin ja köyhimpiin kuntiin, joten ennen sotia kaikki kuusamolaiset lapset kattavaa kansakouluverkko ei toiminu…

The so-called Lapland War between Finland and Germany at the end of the Second World War led to a mass-scale destruction of Lapland. Both local Finnish residents and the indigenous Sámi groups lost their homes, and their livelihoods suffered in many ways. The narratives of these deeply traumatic experiences have long been neglected and suppressed in Finland and have been studied only recently by academics and acknowledged in public. In this text, we analyze the interviews with four elders of one Sámi village, Vuotso. We explore their memories, from a child’s perspective, scrutinizing the narration as a multilayered affective process that involves sensual and embodied dimensions of memory. ©…

Experience influences elemental and configural perception of certain binary odour mixtures in newborn rabbits.

SUMMARY Elemental and configural olfactory perception allows interaction with the environment from very early in life. To evaluate how newborn rabbits can extract and respond to information from the highly complex chemical surroundings, and how experience acts on this sensory, cognitive and behavioural capability, we ran a study in four steps including a total of eight experiments. Redescription and new records of the monotypic genus Trynocoris Herring, 1976 (Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae: Fulviini).

Trynocoris lawrencei Herring, the only representative of the genus Trynocoris and only known from Barro Colorado Island, Canal Zone, Panama, is recorded for the first time from Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama: Chinqui and Ecuador. Redescription of the genus and species are given along with color photographs of the adults, scanning electron micrographs of selected structures of T. lawrencei. Illustrations of the tarsi and male genitalia are presented for the first time.
Cylapofulvidius ChérotGorczyca, 2000-a synonym of Fulvidius Poppius, 1909 (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae: Cylapinae).

The genus Cylapofulvidius Chérot & Gorczyca, 2000 is proposed as a junior subjective synonym of Fulvidius Poppius, 1909 syn. nov. and all members of Cylapofulvidius are transferred to the genus Fulvidius. The genus Fulvidius and its type species F. punctatus Poppius, 1909 are redescribed, and diagnoses of each Fulvidius species, habitus picture of the adult and illustration of male genital structures of most of the treated species are provided. Scanning electron micrographs of selected structures of Fulvidius webbi (Chérot & Gorczyca, 2000) are presented for the first time. A key to species of Fulvidius is provided.
