International audience; Objective : The objective of this study was to describe the changes in salivary protein profiles in infants between the ages of 3 and 6 months, and to evaluate the impact of teeth eruption and introduction of solid foods on such profiles. Design : 73 infants were followed longitudinally at 3 and 6 months of age. Their whole saliva proteins were separated by SDS–PAGE electrophoresis and semi-quantified by image analysis. Amylase activity was also measured on a sub-sample of the population (n=42 infants). Cerebral infarction was produced in mice by intravenous injection of a photosensitive dye, rose bengal (10 mg/kg), and by focal illumination of the intact skull surface for 3 min with a laser source, operating at 570 nm with power levels of 2, 5, 10, and 20 mW. Location of infarction was made using 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride and the time course of edema in the irradiated cerebral hemisphere was evaluated by measuring water, sodium, and potassium content 4, 24, and 72 hr after irradiation. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to compare pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with 1000 cSt silicone oil endotamponade and PPV with densiron endotamponade for retinal detachment with macular hole and posterior staphyloma in highly myopic eyes. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In a prospective study, 30 eyes of 30 patients were randomly assigned to PPV and densiron (n = 15) or PPV with silicone oil (n = 15). All eyes had laser photocoagulation of the macular hole rim after PPV. Silicone oil or densiron was removed 12 weeks after surgery. Patients were followed-up for 6 months after oil removal. Four regional claims databases were used to measure drug prevalence, compare dosing intervals to those recommended in the summary of product characteristics (SPC), and identify switchers. We report a case of contrast sensitivity loss in the peripheral visual field following laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). A 50-year-old white man was referred to us for differences in visual perception in the peripheral field between the right eye, which had had LASIK, and the left eye, which was emmetropic. Linear meridional static perimetry was carried out in the 0- to 180-degree meridian using a Goldmann perimeter to assess the peripheral perimetric thresholds. There was a statistically significantly marked increased threshold in contrast sensitivity in the nasal and temporal fields from 40 degrees of eccentricity in the LASIK eye compared with that in the emmetropic eye.
