Testing of laser ablation ion source for JYFLTRAP
2015
In this work, we have constructed and tested a laser ablation ion source for JYFLTRAP Penning trap at the IGISOL (Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-line) facility. The calibration of the Penning trap parameters requires reference ions or ion clusters that have well-known masses with relatively small mass uncertainty. These ions and ion clusters can be created with certain solid targets, which contain large amounts of isotopes of reference masses and by using a laser for target ablation. In this work simulations of ion source parameters, construction, testing and improving a laser ablation ion source setup have been done. Targets with relatively large abundances of 63Cu and 65Cu, 85Rb, 87Rb, 11…
Photo-enhanced O−, H− and Br− ion production in caesium sputter negative ion source : no evidence for resonant ion pair production
2022
It has been proposed that the negative ion yield of a caesium sputter ion source could be enhanced by promoting neutral caesium atoms to electronically excited 7p states supporting resonant ion pair production. We have tested this hypothesis by illuminating the cathode of a caesium sputter ion source with an adjustable wavelength laser and measuring its effect on the extracted beam currents of O−, H− and Br− anions. The laser exposure causes the beam currents to increase but the effect is independent of the wavelength in the range of 440-460 nm, which leads us to conclude that there is no evidence for resonant ion pair production. The photon-induced beam current enhancement scales with the …

Controlling laser assisted radiative recombination with few-cycle laser pulse
2007
We report on the radiative recombination of a free electron with a hydrogenic ion in the presence of a few-cycle pulses. It has been shown that the main features of the emission spectra may be described in the framework of a semiclassical model in which the recombination is viewed as a two-step process. The spectra width of the emitted photon energy is practically confined in a range of values in which the emission is classically allowed. Moreover, it has been found that spectra width can be controlled by varying the carrier envelope phase and/or the pulse peak intensity
Spins and magnetic moments of 58;60;62;64Mn ground states and isomers
2015
The odd-odd 54;56;58;60;62;64Mn isotopes (Z = 25) were studied using bunched-beam collinear laser spectroscopy at ISOLDE, CERN. From the measured hyperfine spectra the spins and magnetic moments of Mn isotopes up to N = 39 were extracted. The previous tentative ground state spin assignments of 58;60;62;64Mn are now firmly determined to be I = 1 along with an I = 4 assignment for the isomeric states in 58;60;62Mn. The I = 1 magnetic moments show a decreasing trend with increasing neutron number while the I = 4 moments remain quite constant between N = 33 and N = 37. The results are compared to large-scale shell-model calculations using the GXPF1A and LNPS effective interactions. The excellen…

Taidetta 3D- ja laserteknologian avulla
2019
Joitakin vuosia sitten toteutettiin taiteen ja teknologian osaamista yhdistänyt Lares-projekti yhteistyössä LUT-yliopiston, lasertyöstön laboratorion (LUT Laser), Saimaan ammattikorkeakoulun sekä kuuden yrityksen kesken. Seuraava katsaus kertoo tästä vuosina 2014-2016 toteutetusta hankkeesta “Lasertaideresidenssi tunnearvoa konkretisoivana työkaluna” ja siihen osallistuneiden tutkijoiden ja opettajien kokemuksista. nonPeerReviewed
Oxidation of silicon nanoparticles produced by ns laser ablation in liquids
2014
The investigation of nanoparticles produced by ns pulsed Nd:YAG laser ablation of silicon in liquids is reported. Combined characterization by morphological and structural techniques shows that these nanoparticles have a mean diameter of ~3 nm and a core-shell structure consisting of a Si-nanocrystal surrounded by a layer of oxidized Si. Time resolved luminescence spectra evidence visible and UV emissions: a broad band around 1.9 eV originates from Si-nanocrystals, while two bands centered at 2.7 eV and 4.4 eV are associated with oxygen deficient centers in the SiO2 shell.
Laser assisted decay spectroscopy at the CRIS beam line at ISOLDE
2012
A new collinear resonant ionization spectroscopy (Cris)beam line has recently been installed at Isolde, Cern utilising lasers to combine collinear laser spectroscopy and resonant ionization spectroscopy. The combined technique offers the ability to purify an ion beam that is heavily contaminated with radioactive isobars, including the ground state of an isotope from its isomer, allowing sensitive secondary experiments to be performed. A new programme aiming to use the Cris technique for the separation of nuclear isomeric states for decay spectroscopy will commence in 2011. A decay spectroscopy station, consisting of a rotating wheel implantation system for alpha decay spectroscopy, and thre…
