Late Miocene sea surface salinity variability and paleoclimate conditions in the Eastern Mediterranean inferred from coral aragonite δ18O
2009
Abstract Coral skeletons are archives of chemical proxies which enable paleoenvironmental reconstructions to be made at subannual resolution. Stable oxygen isotope ( δ 18 O) ratios of these archives reflect sea surface temperature (SST) as well as the δ 18 O composition of ambient seawater. The δ 18 O seawater composition is not only controlled by global ice build-up, but river discharge and the hydrological balance of evaporation and precipitation, all influencing sea surface salinity (SSS), also play an important role in marginal seas. New sub-annually resolved coral δ 18 O data were measured and evaluated together with published data from reef coral communities of Late Miocene age from C…
A catalogue of the vertebrate fossil record from the Guadix-Baza Basin (SE Spain)
2020
In this paper, a catalogue of the vertebrate content of the Guadix-Baza Basin is presented. A total of 93 localities have been reviewed, providing more than 300 vertebrate species. These localities have been included in 11 biochronological units, ranging in age from the late Miocene (MN 13) to the Middle Pleistocene (MmQ 4), including also two MN 10 localities. The best-represented epoch in the Guadix-Baza Basin is the Pliocene (MN 14 to MN 16), with 41 sites. This is followed by the Early Pleistocene (MN17 and MmQ1 to MmQ3) with 30 sites. The vertebrate classes represented in the basin are Actinopterygii, Amphibia, Aves, Reptilia and Mammalia, this last one being the best represented. Amon…
New species of Deinogalerix (Mammalia, Eulipotyphla) from the late Miocene of Scontrone (Abruzzo, central Italy)
2017
Deinogalerix is a typical component of the late Miocene insular fauna of Gargano (south-eastern Italy). Remains of this taxon had also been found over the last 20 years at the early Tortonian site of Scontrone (Abruzzo, central Italy), but they had never been described in detail. Two new species are introduced. One of them, D. samniticus sp. nov., is larger sized and better documented, and received a formal description. The other entity is clearly distinct from D. samniticus sp. nov., but it is merely represented by a single mandible. It is therefore presented here as a different, but undetermined species, Deinogalerix sp. Comparative analyses show that the new species have exclusive dental…
Nuevas faunas de micromamíferos del Terciario continental de la Depresión Intermedia (provincia de Cuenca, España centro-oriental)
1986
In this paper the fossil content of nine new micromammal bearing localities and that of 15 levels in a borehole from the Loranca Basin (eastern Tague Basin, Prov. of Cuenca) is described. The age ranges from early Arvernian (Late Oligocene) to Turolian (Late Miocene). 47 rodent and lagomorph taxons have been found which are arranged in 8 biostratigraphic units. The Loranca-2 borehole contains 15 fossiliferous levels covering the Upper Oligocene/Lower Miocene. These additional data complete the faunal sequence published by Díaz & López(1919). The stratigraphic framework of the basin needs a revision because of the new faunal data.

Se presenta una serie de 9 nuevos yaci…
