Antti Räihän Suomen historian väitöskirja Jatkuvuus ja muutosten hallinta. Hamina ja Lappeenranta Ruotsin ja Venäjän alaisuudessa 1720−1760-luvuilla tarkastettiin 24.8.2012 Jyväskylän yliopistossa. Vastaväittäjänä toimi tutkija Kari-Matti Piilahti Helsingin yliopistosta ja kustoksena professori Petri Karonen Jyväskylän yliopistosta.

Abstract Background The common marmoset monkey (Callithrix jacchus), a small non-endangered New World primate native to eastern Brazil, is becoming increasingly used as a non-human primate model in biomedical research, drug development and safety assessment. In contrast to the growing interest for the marmoset as an animal model, the molecular tools for genetic analysis are extremely limited. Results Here we report the development of the first marmoset-specific oligonucleotide microarray (EUMAMA) containing probe sets targeting 1541 different marmoset transcripts expressed in hippocampus. Abstract Background Conventional high-grade osteosarcoma is a primary malignant bone tumor, which is most prevalent in adolescence. Survival rates of osteosarcoma patients have not improved significantly in the last 25 years. Aiming to increase this survival rate, a variety of model systems are used to study osteosarcomagenesis and to test new therapeutic agents. Effect of Sitting Posture on Sit-Skiing Economy in Non-disabled Athletes

This study focused on resolving the differences in economy between two common sit-skiing postures used by disabled athletes, suspected to be the most and least effective. Ten experienced non-disabled male cross-country skiers went through an incremental testing protocol with an ergometer simulating double poling in two sitting postures “kneeing” and “knee-high.” The protocol consisted of 3 × 4 min steady-state stages (13, 22, and 34% of maximal sprint power output). Subjects' respiratory gases and heart rate were measured and blood lactate concentrations were determined. In addition, pulling forces and motion capture recordings were collected. The aim of this article is to look at the ways in which young European women staying in the city of Varanasi for long periods of time talk about India and how they negotiate their place and role as women there. There is a common travellers’ discourse that sees India as a difficult and dangerous place to a vulnerable traveler, and the encounters of colonial women with “otherness” have been widely analysed. This article brings this discussion to the post colonial era and endeavors to initiate a discussion about how to understand the encounters between visiting Western women and the locals in India today. On December 24, 2018, the Etna volcano has recorded a significant eruption. Linked to this phenomenon, after a seismic swarm of 72 shocks, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck a large area North of Catania city, on the Eastern coast of Sicily. Six villages reported 28 injured people and damages to the building. According to seismologists the earthquake had an unusual level of magnitude. Yet, despite the real danger of this event, many people who live around the volcano, in one of the most densely populated areas of Sicily, perceived these facts in an ambivalent way. Artikkelissa tarkastellaan, millaisia merkityksiä kansakunnalle, kansalliselle kulttuurille ja niiden kehittymisen edellytyksille annettiin sanomalehti Suomettaressa vuonna 1863. Samana vuonna pidetyt, autonomian ajan toiset valtiopäivät on määritelty keskeiseksi tapahtumaksi Suomen valtiolliselle olemassaololle. Niiden lähestyminen vilkastutti lehdistön kirjoittelua tärkeinä pidetyistä asioista. Suometar oli tuolloin yksi suurimmista sanomalehdistä ja tärkein fennomaanilehti.
