Comparison of lower limb segments kinematics in taekwondo kick. an approach to the proximal to distal motion

2015

Abstract In taekwondo, there is a lack of consensus about how the kick sequence occurs. The aim of this study was to analyse the peak velocity (resultant and value in each plane) of lower limb segments (thigh, shank and foot), and the time to reach this peak velocity in the kicking lower limb during the execution of the roundhouse kick technique. Ten experienced taekwondo athletes (five males and five females; mean age of 25.3 ±5.1 years; mean experience of 12.9 ±5.3 years) participated voluntarily in this study performing consecutive kicking trials to a target located at their sternum height. Measurements for the kinematic analysis were performed using two 3D force plates and an eight came…

Understanding Action and Adventure Sports Participation—An Ecological Dynamics Perspective

2017

© 2017, The Author(s). Previous research has considered action and adventure sports using a variety of associated terms and definitions which has led to confusing discourse and contradictory research findings. Traditional narratives have typically considered participation exclusively as the pastime of young people with abnormal characteristics or personalities having unhealthy and pathological tendencies to take risks because of the need for thrill, excitement or an adrenaline ‘rush’. Conversely, recent research has linked even the most extreme forms of action and adventure sports to positive physical and psychological health and well-being outcomes. Here, we argue that traditional framewor…

Activity profile, PlayerLoad™ and heart rate response of Gaelic football players : A pilot study

2019

The objectives of this study were to; quantify positional differences in the activity profiles of Gaelic football players and to evaluate decrements in physical performance during a pre-season competition. Global positioning system (GPS) data was recorded from 36 players from 3 teams across 5 games. The relative distance covered in locomotor activities, peak speed, relative PlayerLoad™ (PL.min -1 )and heart rate responses were evaluated between playing positions and across match periods using a mixed model analysis. The mean relative distance of 92.4 ± 23.3 m.min -1 covered, comprised 28.4 ± 10.2 m.min -1 of high intensity running (m.min -1 ≥4.0 m.s -1 ) and 9.9 ± 3.9 m.min -1 of very high i…

Predicting accelerometer-based physical activity in physical education and total physical activity: The Self-determination Theory approach

2019

The present study tested the motivational model of physical education (PE) including needs for competence, autonomy, social relatedness, intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, in-class moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA), and total MVPA. Participants were 490 (264 girls, 226 boys) Finnish elementary school students. The data were collected using accelerometers and questionnaires for a seven-day period during the fall semester 2017. The key findings were that 1) social relatedness associated with total MVPA via in-class MVPA in girls, whereas competence was linked to in-class MVPA through extrinsic motivation in boys, 2) competence was positively linked to extrinsic motivation in a si…

2017

The pathologies located at shoulder can be caused by misuse or continued implementation of a sporting practice or physical activity. These pathologies are second position in the ranking of Traumatologics and Orthopedic Clinicals (Windt, Koes, De Jong & Bouter, 1995). Shoulder’s muscle injuries can occur when the arm is in a position that exceeds normal, this fact is repeated in sport, may be the repetition of the hand signal of the inductor problem (Kapandji, 2006). Given the importance of muscle function of the shoulder joint, along the existing boom of new techniques in the specific muscle activation has been carried out an experimental study using a " Test neuro proprioceptive response "…

Children's expectancy beliefs and subjective task values through two years of school-based program and associated links to physical education enjoyme…

2016

Purpose: The present study examined the patterns of children's expectancy beliefs and subjective task values through the Physical Activity as Civil Skill Program and associated links to physical education enjoyment and total physical activity. Methods: The sample comprised 401 children aged 9–13 years from 3 small towns located in North-East Finland. All children received school-based activities across 2-year program from Grades 5 to 7. The present data were collected using questionnaires across 3 measurement phases during 2012–2014. Results: The levels of expectancy beliefs and subjective task values indicated to be relatively high and the development was stable through the program, especi…

Comparison of distance covered in paddle in the serve team according to performance level

2013

Although paddle is the second most practiced sport in Spain, the scientific knowledge about the players' work-load is still very low. The serve is a critical situation because the team has the opportunity to start the point attacking by approaching the net straight after the serve. However, the distance covered by the serve team still has not been studied in padel. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyse the distance covered by the serve team according performance level. It was hypothesized that the server would cover more distance than his partner due to the approach to the net after the serve. Moreover, it also was hypothesized that the difference between serve and partner would be greater…

Effects of exercise on life quality in a rheumatoid arthritis patient

2020

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic-degenerative disease characterized by symptoms that significantly impact on the functional capacity and thus, the ability to carry out daily functional activities reducing the quality of life (QoL). The aim was to evaluate the effects of a strength and conditioning (S&C) program on the quality of life (QoL), the self-perception disease impact, the self-fatigue perception and cardiovascular risk factors in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). 34-year-old woman (height: 1.40m; weight: 36.1kg) diagnosed with RA and CVD underwent a six-month S&C program with aerobic training 2-3 times a week in 1-3 sets of 5-15 minutes…

Longitudinal associations of physical activity and pubertal development with academic achievement in adolescents.

2020

Highlights • Boys with higher levels of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity had better academic achievement than those with lower levels of physical activity at baseline. • Physical activity was not associated with academic achievement at follow-up in boys or girls. • Continuously inactive adolescents had poorer academic achievement over the follow-up period than their more active peers. • Girls with more advanced pubertal status had better academic achievement than other girls.
