In research on learner language complexity, accuracy and fluency (CAF), syntactic complexity is often studied with quantitative measures based on words, clauses, sentences, and T-units. The findings have been mixed, but segmenting learner language into these units of measure has seldom been problematised, even if the need for accurate coding is well known. The present study explores words, clauses, sentences, and T-units as production units in written learner language using a corpus of 352 L2 Finnish texts (28,813 words). As part of research aimed at establishing the profiles of students of new entry at ISFODOSU, we include vocational variables to determine the most important motivations for the choice of career of the participants, as well as for the election of this university and opinion on its technological resources. The sample (No. 744) was chosen at random, proportionally among the Enclosures, Careers and Sex strata. First, we validate the FIT-Choice scale with two confirmatory factorial analyses. Interaction between students and teachers is fundamental and has therefore been widely studied in education. However, there have been few studies on intensive spe-cial support being provided to vocational education and training (VET) students. Firstly, the focus of this article is on students’ perceptions of interactions with their class teachers. Students (aged 17–34 years) from four Finnish vocational institutions providing intensive special support were interviewed.
