Numerical Solution of Fuzzy Differential Equations with Z-numbers using Fuzzy Sumudu Transforms

2018

The uncertain nonlinear systems can be modeled with fuzzy differential equations (FDEs) and the solutions of these equations are applied to analyze many engineering problems. However, it is very difficult to obtain solutions of FDEs. In this paper, the solutions of FDEs are approximated by utilizing the fuzzy Sumudu transform (FST) method. Here, the uncertainties are in the sense of Z-numbers. Important theorems are laid down to illustrate the properties of FST. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that this new technique is effective to estimate the solutions of FDEs.

Research of organic agricultural production support in Poland

2017

The features of supporting organic production in Poland are analyzed in the article. Poland is characterized by the largest employment of the population and the number of farms in the organic sector among the countries of Europe. Despite the favorable natural and climatic conditions, the scientific and practical base, significant areas occupied by organic production, the powerful export potential of the country, the proportion of organic operators in the structure of agricultural producers is very low. The main obstacles to the transition to organic principles are the poor development of environmental infrastructure and support from various services of the entire agricultural system. Theref…

Hydrogen Dark Fermentation for Degradation of Solid andLiquid Food Waste

2021

The constant increase in the amount of food waste accumulating in landfills and discharged into the water reservoirs causes environment pollution and threatens human health. Solid and liquid food wastes include fruit, vegetable, and meat residues, alcohol bard, and sewage from various food enterprises. These products contain high concentrations of biodegradable organic compounds and represent an inexpensive and renewable substrate for the hydrogen fermentation. The goal of the work was to study the efficiency of hydrogen obtaining and decomposition of solid and liquid food waste via fermentation by granular microbial preparation (GMP). The application of GMP improved the efficiency of the d…

Multidisciplinary Approach for Evaluating the Geochemical Degradation of Building Stone Related to Pollution Sources in the Historical Center of Napl…

2020

Natural stones have represented one of the main building materials since ancient times. In recent decades, a worsening in degradation phenomena related mostly to environmental pollution was observed, threatening their conservation. The present work is focused on the minero-petrographic and geochemical characterization of black crust (BC) samples taken from the historical center of Naples, after selecting two pilot monumental areas. The latter were chosen based on their historical importance, type of material, state of preservation and position in the urban context (i.e., high vehicular traffic area, limited traffic area, industrial area, etc.). The building materials used and their interact…

Application of time domain induced polarization to the mapping of lithotypes in a landfill site

2012

A direct current (DC) resistivity and time domain induced polarization (TDIP) survey was undertaken at a decommissioned landfill site situated in Hørløkke, Denmark, for the purpose of mapping the waste deposits and to discriminate important geological units that control the hydrology of the surrounding area. It is known that both waste deposits and clay have clear signatures in TDIP data, making it possible to enhance the resolution of geological structures compared to DC surveys alone.

Four DC/TDIP profiles were carried out crossing the landfill, and another seven profiles in the surroundings provide a sufficiently dense coverage of the entire area. The whole dataset w…

A Novel Computational Approach for Harmonic Mitigation in PV Systems with Single-Phase Five-Level CHBMI

2018

In this paper, a novel approach to low order harmonic mitigation in fundamental switching frequency modulation is proposed for high power photovoltaic (PV) applications, without trying to solve the cumbersome non-linear transcendental equations. The proposed method allows for mitigation of the first-five harmonics (third, fifth, seventh, ninth, and eleventh harmonics), to reduce the complexity of the required procedure and to allocate few computational resource in the Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) based control board. Therefore, the voltage waveform taken into account is different respect traditional voltage waveform. The same concept, known as “voltage cancelation”, used for single-…

Pore structure and water transfer in Pietra d’Aspra limestone: A neutronographic study

2020

Neutron radiography (NR) was here applied to study the effects of two different commercially available consolidants on the water absorption properties in a particular type of limestone (biocalcarenite), known as Pietra d’Aspra stone, which is one of the most extensively used lithotypes in Sicilian Baroque buildings. Our attention was mainly focused on the evaluation, using a fast and nondestructive visualization of water motion through capillarity, of the effectiveness of such layers as consolidating agents in view of preserving and maintaining both old and modern structures. The biocalcarenite was treated with nanosilica (Nano Estel®) and nanolime (CaLoSil®) by brushing it until full satur…

Present and Future of the E-Learning in Economics Schools and Faculties

2018

The goal of this paper is to justify/motivate the existence of MOOCs of quantitative subjects, particularly of Mathematics and Statistics, in the degrees taught in Faculties of Economics and Business, complementary to the standard university courses. The changes in curricula carried out in Spain in the last decade have boosted access to these faculties’ degrees for all kind of students. However, some of these students lack skills and abilities enough to successfully tackle the first university Mathematics and Statistics courses, as these are currently designed. Empirical studies support the use of multimedia material as a very effective supporting tool …

Heat Shock Proteins: Cell Protection through Protein Triage

2010

Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are chaperones that catalyze the proper folding of nascent proteins and the refolding of denatured proteins. The ubiquitin-proteasome system is an error-checking system that directs improperly folded proteins for destruction. A coordinated interaction between the HSPs (renaturation) and the proteasome (degradation) must exist to assure protein quality control mechanisms. Although it still remains unknown how the decision of folding vs. degradation is taken, many pieces of evidence demonstrate that HSPs interact directly or indirectly with the proteasome, assuring quite selectively the proteasomal degradation of certain proteins under stress conditions. In this rev…
