Air gap fringing flux reduction in a high frequency inductor for a solar inverter

2013

In a gapped inductor, air gap fringing flux induces eddy currents in conductors in the vicinity of the air gap producing unwanted power loss and heat in the coil. This paper presents a detailed analysis to evaluate the performance changes of a high frequency inductor used in a solar inverter by new arrangement scheme of the air gap locations. The effect of air gap positioning in the core and the ac-resistance and leakage inductance of the high frequency inductor used in a solar inverter is investigated by using the 2-D finite element analysis. The simulation results show that a significant improvement can be achieved with limited changes in the air gap locations.

Identifiability analysis for pressure sensors positioning

2017

The identifiability analysis is investigated as sampling design method aimed to the leakage detection in looped water distribution networks. The preliminary ranking of the candidate nodes for the pressure sensors positioning is performed by running several hydraulic simulations and calculating sensitivity functions. The reduced subset of nodes and their sensitivities are then used to perform the identifiability analysis by calculating the collinearity index which provides the maximum number of sensors and their location into the network. The index selects the nodes according to their sensitivities to several leakages scenarios, simulated in EPANET by changing the emitter coefficient of the …

Risk factors for bile leakage after liver resection for neoplastic disease.

2022

Biliary leakage (BL) remains the most frequent and feared complication after hepatoresective surgery. Placement of the abdominal drainage at the end of liver surgery remains controversial due to the delicate balance between risks and potential benefits in case of BL. The study was aimed to detect possible risk factors for BL occurrence after liver surgery. We enrolled all oncologic patients who underwent liver resection from June 2016 to March 2021. BL was diagnosed according to the ISGLS definition. We have examined demographic characteristics of the patients, type of neoplasia, presence of cirrhosis, neoadjuvant chemotherapy and type of intervention. Uni- and multivariable analyses were p…

Diagnosis, assessment, and management of surgical complications following esophagectomy

2018

Despite improvements in operative strategies for esophageal resection, anastomotic leaks, fistula, postoperative pulmonary complications, and chylothorax can occur. Our review seeks to identify potential risk factors, modalities for early diagnosis, and novel interventions that may ameliorate the potential adverse effects of these surgical complications following esophagectomy. ispartof: Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences vol:1434 issue:1 pages:254-273 ispartof: location:United States status: Published online

Leakage Detection via Edge Processing in LoRaWAN-based Smart Water Distribution Networks

2022

The optimization and digitalization of Water Distribution Networks (WDNs) are becoming key objectives in our modern society. Indeed, WDNs are typically old, worn and obsolete. These inadequate conditions of the infrastructures lead to significant water loss due to leakages inside pipes, junctions and nodes. It has been measured that in Europe the average value of lost water is about 26 %. Leakage control in current WDNs is typically passive, repairing leaks only when they are visible. Emerging Low Power Wide Area Network (LPWAN) technologies, and especially IoT ones, can help monitor water consumption and automatically detect leakages. In this context, LoRaWAN can be the right way to deploy…

Independent right lung high frequency and left lung conventional ventilation in the management of severe air leak during ARDS

1995

Summary Pulmonary air leaks are one of the most common problems in patients with the adult respiratory distress syndrome, ARDS. We report what we believe to be the first case in which unilateral high-frequency ventilation combined with contralateral conventional positive pressure ventilation has been used successfully to manage severe air leak in an infant with ARDS.

Chimney and periscope grafts observed over 2 years after their use to revascularize 169 renovisceral branches in 77 patients with complex aortic aneu…

2013

^ ^Purpose: To evaluate the performance of periscope and/or chimney grafts (CPGs) in theendovascular treatment of pararenal or thoracoabdominal aneurysms using off-the-shelfdevices.Methods: Between February 2002 and August 2012, 77 consecutive patients (62 men; meanage 7369 years) suffering from pararenal aortic (n¼55), thoracoabdominal (n¼16), or arch tovisceral artery aneurysms (n¼6) were treated with aortic stent-graft implantation requiringchimney and/or periscope grafts to maintain side branch perfusion. CPGs were planned inadvance and were not used as bailout. A standardized follow-up protocol includingcomputed tomographic angiography, laboratory testing, and clinical examination wasp…

Microbiological assessment of the implant-abutment interface in different connections: cross-sectional study after 5 years of functional loading.

2014

Objective To evaluate the bacterial microflora present inside the implant connection and in the peri-implant sulcus fluid of healthy implants, and to analyze the relationships between these harboring sites for four different implant systems after at least 5 years of functional loading. Materials and methods A cross-sectional study was performed involving 40 patients treated with metal-ceramic cemented bridges supported by at least two healthy implants functionally loaded for 5 years. Four different implant-abutment connections were studied: external hexagon (control group), double internal hexagon (test group 1), internal hexagon with external collar (test group 2), and conical connection (…

The economic burden of endoscopic treatment for anastomotic leaks following oncological Ivor Lewis esophagectomy

2019

BackgroundComplications after surgery for esophageal cancer are associated with significant resource utilization. The aim of this study was to analyze the economic burden of two frequently used endoscopic treatments for anastomotic leak management after esophageal surgery: Treatment with a Self-expanding Metal Stent (SEMS) and Endoscopic Vacuum Therapy (EVT).Materials and methodsBetween January 2012 and December 2016, we identified 60 German-Diagnosis Related Group (G-DRG) cases of patients who received a SEMS and / or EVT for esophageal anastomotic leaks. Direct costs per case were analyzed according to the Institute for Remuneration System in Hospitals (InEK) cost-accounting approach by c…

An international multicentre prospective audit of elective rectal cancer surgery; operative approach versus outcome, including transanal total mesore…

2018

Introduction: Transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) has rapidly emerged as a novel approach for rectal cancer surgery. Safety profiles are still emerging and more comparative data is urgently needed. This study aimed to compare indications and short-term outcomes of TaTME, open, laparoscopic, and robotic TME internationally. Methods: A pre-planned analysis of the European Society of Coloproctology (ESCP) 2017 audit was performed. Patients undergoing elective total mesorectal excision (TME) for malignancy between 1 January 2017 and 15 March 2017 by any operative approach were included. The primary outcome measure was anastomotic leak. Results: Of 2579 included patients, 76.2% (1966/257…
