The effect of lifelong exercise on psychomotor reaction time: a study of 38 pairs of male monozygotic twins

Purpose: The aim was to study the effect of lifetime physical activity on psychomotor speed. Methods: Foot and dominant hand visual simple and choice psychomotor reaction times were studied among monozygotic twins (38 pairs) aged 35-69, discordant for lifetime exercise histories. Results: There was a trend that some components of psychomotor reaction time were faster for frequent than for occasional exercisers. but the findings were not consistent for the hand and feet. After controlling for occupational physical activity, only choice decision time for the hand (26 ms, P < 0.01) and choice reaction time for the contralateral foot (51 ms, P < 0.05) both remained 7% faster. Early developmental milestones in adult schizophrenia and other psychoses. A 31-year follow-up of the Northern Finland 1966 Birth Cohort

Abstract Delayed childhood development may precede adult psychoses. We tested this hypothesis in a large, general population birth cohort (n=12 058) followed to age 31 years. The ages at which individuals learned to stand, walk, speak, and became potty-trained (bowel control) and dry (bladder control), were recorded at a 1-year examination. Differential pathophysiological mechanisms of reduced P300 amplitude in schizophrenia and depression: a single trial analysis

In order to address basic mechanisms behind a reduced averaged P300 wave in schizophrenia and depression, 17 unmedicated schizophrenic and 11 unmedicated depressive subjects were tested in an 'oddball paradigm' against healthy controls matched for gender and age. Are there specific neuropsychological deficits underlying poor insight in first episode psychosis?

Insight in psychosis is a multi-dimensional phenomenon, and has been hypothesised to have some sort of neuropsychological basis. It is unclear to what extent specific neuropsychological abilities are able to predict insight beyond the effect of generalised cognitive ability. We aimed to test this, alongside the relationship of insight with illness duration and diagnosis, in a sample of first episode psychosis patients. Recent studies focusing on food memory in everyday eating and drinking behaviour used a paradigm based on incidental learning of target foods and unexpected memory testing, demanding recognition of the target among distractors, which deviate slightly from the target. Photodynamic therapy with verteporfin for subfoveal choroidal neovascularization secondary to pathologic myopia: long-term study.

Purpose: To assess the safety and effectiveness of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with verteporfin for subfoveal choroidal neovascularization (CNV) secondary to pathologic myopia (PM). Methods: Sixty-two patients (62 eyes) with PM underwent PDT according to the guidelines of the Verteporfin in Photodynamic Therapy Study. Clinical evaluations performed at all study visits included measurement of best-corrected Snellen visual acuity, slit-lamp biomicroscopy, and fundus fluorescein angiography.
