Estar al otro lado de la mesa. Profesionales de los servicios públicos de empleo ante los dilemas de la activación laboral
2019
Under the paradigm of activation, the Public Employment Services has been reshaped by two levels of contractualization. On one hand, the collaboration of the administration with a network of agents on the programme scheme that make up the active policies of employment. On the other hand, the unemployed person?s access to a compartmentalized offer of services and individually taking responsibility for finding work. This double contractualization reveals redefinition of lowering public responsibility faced with the problem of unemployment that this activation supposes. This paper analyses how this redesign has an impact on how professionals serve the unemployed population. This lays bare, in …
Topics in calculus and geometry on metric spaces
2022
In this thesis we present an overview of some important known facts related to topology, geometry and calculus on metric spaces. We discuss the well known problem of the existence of a lipschitz equivalent metric to a given quasiultrametric, revisiting known results and counterexamples and providing some new theorems, in an unified approach. Also, in the general setting of a quasi-metric doubling space, suitable partition of unity lemmas allows us to obtain, in step two Carnot groups, the well known Whitney’s extension theorem for a given real function of class C^m defined on a closed subset of the whole space: this result relies on relevant properties of the symmetrized Taylor’s polynomial…
Impressions of Questionable Marketing Practices in Indonesia: The Influence of Gender and Social Desirability Response Bias
2008
Our research examines the ethical sensitivity of 90 Indonesian business students (61 male and 29 female) toward questionable marketing practices using self-reported data; however, unlike most ethics research, we control for social desirability responsibility bias. In our research, we found that, when social desirability response bias was not considered, there was a significant gender difference. However, we also found that female students scored significantly higher on our measure of social desirability response bias than did their male counterparts. When we considered both gender and social desirability response bias in our models, the differences in ethical sensitivity between genders wer…
Between-group competition and human cooperation.
2008
A distinctive feature of human behaviour is the widespread occurrence of cooperation among unrelated individuals. Explaining the maintenance of costly within-group cooperation is a challenge because the incentive to free ride on the efforts of other group members is expected to lead to decay of cooperation. However, the costs of cooperation can be diminished or overcome when there is competition at a higher level of organizational hierarchy. Here we show that competition between groups resolves the paradigmatic ‘public goods’ social dilemma and increases within-group cooperation and overall productivity. Further, group competition intensifies the moral emotions of anger and guilt associated…
"Szkiełko i oko czy uczucie i wiara" - dylematy pracownika socjalnego
2017
Addressing Complexity in Science|Environment|Health Pedagogy
2019
This paper aims to discuss complexity as a key feature for understanding the role of science knowledge in environmental and health contexts—a central issue in Science|Environment|Health pedagogy. Complex systems are, in principle, not predictable. In different contexts, ephemeral mechanisms produce different, sometimes completely unexpected results. The art of decision-making in complex contexts is to take scientific knowledge into account but to interpret its meaning in terms of concrete complex contexts. This is illustrated by four empirical studies on Science|Environment|Health issues, presented midway through this paper. The findings underscore the importance of introducing complexity i…
Situational factors shape moral judgements in the trolley dilemma in Eastern, Southern and Western countries in a culturally diverse sample
2022
The study of moral judgements often centres on moral dilemmas in which options consistent with deontological perspectives (that is, emphasizing rules, individual rights and duties) are in conflict with options consistent with utilitarian judgements (that is, following the greater good based on consequences). Greene et al. (2009) showed that psychological and situational factors (for example, the intent of the agent or the presence of physical contact between the agent and the victim) can play an important role in moral dilemma judgements (for example, the trolley problem). Our knowledge is limited concerning both the universality of these effects outside the United States and the impact of …
Co-Evolutionary Coupling Between Captured and Uncaptured GDP Cycles : Cross Learning from Amazon and Finland Models for Sustainability
2019
A solution to the critical problem of a dilemma between R&D expansion and productivity decline that a majority of information and communication technology (ICT) leaders have been confronting in the digital economy is expected. It can be expected by a spinoff from economic functionality-seeking GDP-based coevolution cycle to supra-functionality beyond an economic value-seeking uncaptured GDP-driven coevolution cycle. However, the transformation dynamism remains a black box. By means of numerical simulations based on empirical analyses of the development trajectories of global ICT leaders, focusing on Amazon and Finland, together with an intensive review of preceding analyses, this paper atte…
Työssäjaksaminen ja eettinen stressi varhaiskasvatustyössä
2014
Tiivistelmä. Säyrylä, Suvi ja Vääräsmäki, Johanna. 2014. Työssäjaksaminen ja eettinen stressi varhaiskasvatustyössä. Varhaiskasvatustieteen kandidaatintutkielma. Kasvatustieteiden laitos. Jyväskylän yliopisto. 63 sivua + liitteet. Varhaiskasvatustyö on muuttunut viimeisten parinkymmenen vuoden aikana yhä haastavammaksi työhön kohdistuvien vaatimusten kasvaessa.
Ethical dilemmas and well-being in teachers’ work : A three-wave, two-year longitudinal study
2023
The aim of the present longitudinal study was two-fold: First, to explore what kinds of ethical dilemma groups can be identified among Finnish teachers (n = 310) and second, to examine how these groups differ from each other with respect to occupational well-being and recovery from job strain over the two-year follow-up. Using Latent Profile Analysis, three ethical dilemma prevalence groups were identified: rare (27%), occasional (51%), and frequent dilemmas (22%). Teachers in frequent dilemmas group reported highest burnout, however, their recovery from job strain improved and their burnout (exhaustion) diminished over time. To reduce teachers’ ethical dilemmas different approaches are pro…
