Neutrinoless double beta decay in the dualized standard model

The Dualized Standard Model offers a {\it raison d'\^etre} for 3 fermion generations and an explanation for their distinctive mass and mixing patterns, reproducing to a reasonable accuracy the empirical mixing matrix and mass spectrum for both quarks and leptons in terms of just a few parameters. With its parameters thus fixed, the result is a highly predictive framework. In particular, it is shown that it gives explicit parameter-free predictions for neutrinoless double beta decays. For $^{76}Ge$, it predicts a half-life of $10^{28}-10^{30}$ years, which satisfies the present experimental lower bound of $1.8 \times 10^{25}$ years.

Lattice-constrained parametrizations of form factors for semileptonic and rare radiative B decays

We describe the form factors for B to rho lepton neutrino and B to K* gamma decays with just two parameters and the two form factors for B to pi lepton neutrino with a further two or three parameters. The parametrizations are consistent with heavy quark symmetry, kinematic constraints and lattice results, which we use to determine the parameters. In addition, we test versions of the parametrizations consistent (or not) with light-cone sum rule scaling relations at q^2=0.

Lepton flavor violation in the Higgs sector and the role of hadronic tau-lepton decays

It has been pointed out recently that current low-energy constraints still allow for sizable flavor-changing decay rates of the 125 GeV boson into leptons, h -> tau ell (ell= e, mu). In this work we discuss the role of hadronic tau-lepton decays in probing lepton flavor violating couplings in the Higgs sector. At low energy, the effective Higgs coupling to gluons induced by heavy quarks contributes to hadronic tau decays, establishing a direct connection with the relevant process at the LHC, pp (gg)-> h -> tau ell. Fermion masses and mixings in a based model

It has been recently claimed that the symmetry group S4 yields to the Tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing in a “natural” way from the group theory point of view. Approving of this feature as an indication, we build a supersymmetric model of lepton and quark masses based on this family symmetry group. In the lepton sector, a correct mass hierarchy among the charged leptons is achieved together to a neutrino mass matrix which can be diagonalized by the Tri-bimaximal pattern. Our model results to be phenomenologically inequivalent with respect to other proposals based on different flavour groups but still predicting the Tri-bimaximal mixing. New leptoquark mechanism of neutrinoless double beta decay

A new mechanism for neutrinoless double beta ($\znbb$) decay based on leptoquark exchange is discussed. Due to the specific helicity structure of the effective four-fermion interaction this contribution is strongly enhanced compared to the well-known mass mechanism of $\znbb$ decay. As a result the corresponding leptoquark parameters are severely constrained from non-observation of $\znbb$-decay. These constraints are more stringent than those derived from other experiments.

Search for first generation scalar leptoquarks in pp collisions at s=7 TeV with the ATLAS detector

We report a search for first generation scalar leptoquarks using 1.03 fb(-1) of proton-proton collisions data produced by the Large Hadron Collider at root s = 7 TeV and recorded by the ATLAS experiment. Leptoquarks are sought via their decay into an electron or neutrino and a quark, producing events with two oppositely charged electrons and at least two jets, or events with an electron, missing transverse momentum and at least two jets. Control data samples are used to validate background predictions from Monte Carlo simulation. In the signal region, the observed event yields are consistent with the background expectations. Search for vectorlikeBquarks in events with one isolated lepton, missing transverse momentum, and jets ats=8  TeVwith the ATLAS detector

A search has been performed for pair production of heavy vectorlike down-type (B) quarks. The analysis explores the lepton-plus-jets final state, characterized by events with one isolated charged lepton (electron or muon), significant missing transverse momentum, and multiple jets. One or more jets are required to be tagged as arising from b quarks, and at least one pair of jets must be tagged as arising from the hadronic decay of an electroweak boson. The analysis uses the full data sample of pp collisions recorded in 2012 by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, operating at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1). Semi-inclusive deep inelastic lepton scattering off complex nuclei

It is shown that in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of electrons off a complex nucleus A, the detection, in coincidence with the scattered electron, of a nucleus (A-1) in the ground state, as well as of a nucleon and a nucleus (A-2), also in the ground state, may provide unique information on several long standing problems, such as : i) the nature and the relevance of the final state interaction in DIS; ii) validity of the spectator mechanism in DIS; iii) the medium induced modifications of the nucleon structure function; iv) the origin of the EMC effect.

Search for contact interactions and large extra dimensions in dilepton events fromppcollisions ats=7  TeVwith the ATLAS detector

A search for nonresonant new phenomena, originating from either contact interactions or large extra spatial dimensions, has been carried out using events with two isolated electrons or muons. These events, produced at the LHC in proton-proton collisions at root s = 7 TeV, were recorded by the ATLAS detector. The data sample, collected throughout 2011, corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 4.9 and 5.0 fb(-1) in the e(+)e(-) and mu(+)mu(-) channels, respectively. No significant deviations from the Standard Model expectation are observed. Heavy quarks and tau leptons: New physics opportunities

In this talk I discuss the role of heavy quarks in new physics searches with tau leptons. I focus on new physics effects associated to the scalar sector which are naturally enhanced for the heaviest fermions due to the large hierarchy of the fermion masses. I will discuss two topics within this context: lepton flavour violation in the $\tau - \ell$ ($\ell=e,\mu$) sector and violations of lepton universality in tauonic $B$ decays.
