Periapical implant lesion: A systematic review.

2016

Background The aim of this study was to systematically review the evidence for periapical implant lesion, which makes a patient more susceptible to the periapical lesion, frequency, symptoms, signs (including radiological findings) and possible treatment options. Material and Methods A systematic literature review and analysis of publications included in PubMed, Embase and Cochrane; articles published until March 2016; with a populations, exposures and outcomes (PEO) search strategy was performed, focused on the issue: “In patients with periapical lesion to the implant during the osseointegration, what symptoms, signs, and changes in complementary examination manifested, for according to th…

The Inflammatory Response in Acyl-CoA Oxidase 1 Deficiency (Pseudoneonatal Adrenoleukodystrophy)

2012

Among several peroxisomal neurodegenerative disorders, the pseudoneonatal adrenoleukodystrophy (P-NALD) is characterized by the acyl-coenzyme A oxidase 1 (ACOX1) deficiency, which leads to the accumulation of very-long-chain fatty acids ( VLCFA) and inflammatory demyelination. However, the components of this inflammatory process in P-NALD remain elusive. In this study, we used transcriptomic profiling and PCR array analyses to explore inflammatory gene expression in patient fibroblasts. Our results show the activation of IL-1 inflammatory pathway accompanied by the increased secretion of two IL-1 target genes, IL-6 and IL-8 cytokines. Human fibroblasts exposed to very-long-chain fatty acids…

Color and multispectral image processing for the detection of inflammatory lesions of the stomach

2019

The work presented in this manuscript is part of the ANR project EMMIE. This project aims to develop an innovative multimodal system for the detection of inflammatory lesions in the stomach. To this purpose, a prototype has been developed to be able to acquire NBI endoscopic images and multispectral images during human's antrum exploration. The prototype is made of a standard endoscope and multispectral images. The prototype can acquire two types of data: NBI images and spectra. These two modalities are processed independently. Common image processing features are used to recognize four kind of diseases: active gastritis, chronic gastritis, metaplasia and atrophy. In addition, visual based f…

Functional Plasticity after Unilateral Vestibular Midbrain Infarction in Human Positron Emission Tomography.

2016

The aim of the study was to uncover mechanisms of central compensation of vestibular function at brainstem, cerebellar, and cortical levels in patients with acute unilateral midbrain infarctions presenting with an acute vestibular tone imbalance. Eight out of 17 patients with unilateral midbrain infarctions were selected on the basis of signs of a vestibular tone imbalance, e.g., graviceptive (tilts of perceived verticality) and oculomotor dysfunction (skew deviation, ocular torsion) in F18-fluordeoxyglucose (FDG)-PET at two time points: A) in the acute stage, and B) after recovery 6 months later. Lesion-behavior mapping analyses with MRI verified the exact structural lesion sites. Group su…

Injured Axons Instruct Schwann Cells to Build Constricting Actin Spheres to Accelerate Axonal Disintegration

2019

Summary: After a peripheral nerve lesion, distal ends of injured axons disintegrate into small fragments that are subsequently cleared by Schwann cells and later by macrophages. Axonal debris clearing is an early step of the repair process that facilitates regeneration. We show here that Schwann cells promote distal cut axon disintegration for timely clearing. By combining cell-based and in vivo models of nerve lesion with mouse genetics, we show that this mechanism is induced by distal cut axons, which signal to Schwann cells through PlGF mediating the activation and upregulation of VEGFR1 in Schwann cells. In turn, VEGFR1 activates Pak1, leading to the formation of constricting actomyosin…

β1 integrin signaling promotes neuronal migration along vascular scaffolds in the post-stroke brain

2017

Cerebral ischemic stroke is a main cause of chronic disability. However, there is currently no effective treatment to promote recovery from stroke-induced neurological symptoms. Recent studies suggest that after stroke, immature neurons, referred to as neuroblasts, generated in a neurogenic niche, the ventricular-subventricular zone, migrate toward the injured area, where they differentiate into mature neurons. Interventions that increase the number of neuroblasts distributed at and around the lesion facilitate neuronal repair in rodent models for ischemic stroke, suggesting that promoting neuroblast migration in the post-stroke brain could improve efficient neuronal regeneration. To move t…

Prognostic Factors after Endodontic Microsurgery: A Retrospective Study of 111 Cases with 5 to 9 Years of Follow-up

2021

A study was performed of the healing rate of teeth subjected to endodontic microsurgery after a minimum follow-up of 5 years with an analysis of the influence of different pre- and postoperative factors on the outcome. This was a retrospective study of patients subjected to endodontic microsurgery with the use of mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA) for retrograde filling between January 2011 and December 2015. In patients with multiple treated teeth, only 1 random tooth was selected for the statistical analysis. Clinical and radiographic parameters were used to assess healing. Simple binary logistic regression models were used to analyze the influence of patient age and sex, the type of tooth, …

Pathology-selective antiepileptic effects in the focal freeze-lesion rat model of malformation of cortical development

2021

Malformations of cortical development (MCD) represent a group of rare diseases with severe clinical presentation as epileptic and pharmacoresistant encephalopathies. Morphological studies in tissue from MCD patients have revealed reduced GABAergic efficacy and increased intracellular chloride concentration in neuronal cells as important pathophysiological mechanisms in MCD. Also, in various animal models, alterations of GABAergic inhibition have been postulated as a predominant factor contributing to perilesional hyperexcitability. Along with this line, the NKCC1 inhibitor bumetanide has been postulated as a potential drug for treatment of epilepsy, mediating its antiepileptic effect by red…
