This essay aims to highlight the inherent political significance that can be attributed to The Trojan Women through a comparison with Iphigenia at Aulis starting from the representation of the death of two innocent victims. The death of Astyanax, who seals the destruction of Troy and whose violence is explicitly displayed, shows a political meaning that is clear and unequivocal, whereas the representation of the sacrifice of Iphigenia, an early act of the expedition, is ambiguous and politically uncommitted. A reading of the historical novel Francisco Pizarro, written by the Peruvian Rosa Arciniega in 1936, is proposed. Through the analysis of the work, we will reflect on the relationship of the writer with the national historiography and with the ideal of a woman who dominated Latin American political and cultural discourse in the first half of the 20th century. From this, we seek to identify the place that the author constructs for herself within the intellectual field.
