Over - And Understatements In Bishop Czaja’s Pastoral Letter To His Diocesans

2020

The Catholic Church is the largest religious faction in Poland, the country being organisationally divided into church dioceses governed by bishops. The letter by the bishop of Opole, Andrzej Czaja may be read in more than one way. One of them is the bona fide (i.e., good faith) one, the reading which assumes his sincerity, presumably the one that had been intended by the author for his diocesans to use. The other is less cooperative and sees some cases of over- and understatements in the text. This can be linguistically studied using the pragmatic theories of H.P. Grice and G.N. Leech. The present paper addresses both these readings as they fit into a global picture. Every lay person is to…

L’occhio rivelatore. Iconologia ed ermeneutica dello sguardo in Leonardo Sciascia

2012

‘‘This is my home, too’’: Migration, spectrality and hospitality inRoberta Torre’s Sud Side Stori (2000)

2011

The article explores Roberta Torre’s film Sud Side Stori (2000), an extravagant Italian re-vision of Romeo and Juliet set in the Sicilian city of Palermo which displays awareness of the global circulation of the story of the two ‘‘star-crossed lovers’’. In the film, which combines neo-realist cinematographic techniques with the artificial style of the musical, Shakespeare’s young lovers become Toni Giulietto, a lousy local rock singer, and Romea Wacoubo, a beautiful Nigerian prostitute who falls in love with him when she sees him standing on his balcony. Not unlike West Side Story, the inter-racial passion between Toni and Romea exacerbates pre-existing ethnic conflicts. It is opposed not o…

Novellistica del tardo Trecento. Studi e questioni critiche.

2016

The minority paradigm attributed to late 14th century storytellers reveals its insufficiency in the light of the most recent theoretical debate on gender. In the essay it is observed how the adoption of a narrative subject highlights, in the novelistic texts in question, an asymmetrical textual ratio, the mixture of literary and spoken language, are elements of an experimental tension. In the Autumn of the Middle Ages, the metamorphosis of the novel, considered in the face of contemporary figurative languages, also brings to light the dynamic game of plural and unitary, closed and open, as a founding trait of modern narrative processes.

Preso alla lettera. Il significato letterale come problema normativo.

2011

2012

1910 is remembered in Russian culture as the year when symbolism declares its crisis, when the post-symbolist movements move their first steps. But a look at the publishing figures is enough to understand that this process passed unnoticed by the majority of the reading public. In early XX-th century, popular literature was already an important and complex phenomenon. The readers of dime novels had no notion of the highbrow movements; the “people's intelligentsia”, on the other hand, opposed them as enemies to their values of social commitment. Anastasia Verbickaia, one of the leaders of the market in the first two decades of the century, although her career had started in the same field, i…
