Spatially resolved SO2 flux emissions from Mt Etna

Abstract We report on a systematic record of SO2 flux emissions from individual vents of Etna volcano (Sicily), which we obtained using a permanent UV camera network. Observations were carried out in summer 2014, a period encompassing two eruptive episodes of the New South East Crater (NSEC) and a fissure‐fed eruption in the upper Valle del Bove. We demonstrate that our vent‐resolved SO2 flux time series allow capturing shifts in activity from one vent to another and contribute to our understanding of Etna's shallow plumbing system structure. This paper takes into consideration Timberlake Wertenbaker's adaptation of Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend (2016) for the radio. In particular, the focus of the paper is on the first of the four radioplays and on the dramatic strategies used and adaptation choices made by Wertenbaker. We shall focus on the use of two main adult voices (Lena and Lila), the use of the voice over, and the representation of time. The chapter also considers the image of "neapolitanity" offered in the radioplay, the reception with the British audience with respect to the meridionist idea of Southern Italy as poor and violent. This essay examines the novel Seltsame Sterne starren zur Erde (2003) of the Turkish-German author Emine Sevgi Özdamar and the collection of essays In Deutschland leben (2004) of Iranian-German poet SAID. The focus of this work intends to show what different aspects multiculturalism may have at each different writers. Özdamar was born in Malatya in 1946. She woked in Germany as an actress, director and writer and became the symbol of a bridge-builder between the eastern and western culture.
