Prospects for quarkonium studies at the high-luminosity LHC

Prospects for quarkonium-production studies accessible during the upcoming high-luminosity phases of the CERN Large Hadron Collider operation after 2021 are reviewed. Current experimental and theoretical open issues in the field are assessed together with the potential for future studies in quarkonium-related physics. This will be possible through the exploitation of the huge data samples to be collected in proton-proton, proton-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus collisions, both in the collider and fixed-target modes. Differential branching fraction and angular analysis of the decay $B^{0} \to K^{*0} \mu^{+}\mu^{-}$

The angular distribution and differential branching fraction of the decay B-0 -> K*(0)mu(+)mu(-) are studied using a data sample, collected by the LHCb experiment in pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb(-1). Several angular observables are measured in bins of the dimuon invariant mass squared, q(2). A first measurement of the zero-crossing point of the forward-backward asymmetry of the dimuon system is also presented. The zero-crossing point is measured to be q(0)(2) = 4.9 +/- 0.9 GeV2/c(4), where the uncertainty is the sum of statistical and systematic uncertainties. The results are consistent with the Standard Model predictions.

Selvitän pro gradu-tutkielmassani saksalaisten idealistien Immanuel Kantin ja F.W.J. Schellingin käsityksiä vapaudesta ja pahuudesta. Esitän että Kant ja Schelling lähestyvät vapautta ja pahaa hyvin erilaisten oletusten pohjalta ja päätyvät siten erilaisiin lopputuloksiin. Toisaalta Kantilla ja Schellingillä on myös yhteinen oletus siinä, että näkevät vapauden tehdä pahaa ilman redukstiota kausaalisiin selityksiin välttämättömäksi ihmisen tahdonvapaudelle. Kantille keskeinen lähtökohta on ihminen ”kahden maailman kansalaisena”. Kant käsittää luonnon, johon ihminenkin kuuluu, täysin kausaalis-mekaanisena kokonaisuutena. Measurement of the mixing-induced and CP-violating parameters of Bs -> phi gamma decays at LHCb

En esta tesis se presenta la primera medida de los observables de violación de CP e inducidos por mezcla de la desintegración Bs -> phi gamma (los observables A, S y C), que aparecen en la fracción de desintegración en función del tiempo. Se han utilizado los datos tomados por el experimento LHCb durante los años 2011 y 2012, representando una luminosidad integrada de 3 fb-1 en total. El Modelo Estándar de física de partículas describe las propiedades de todas las partículas elementales y de las interacciones fuerte, débil y electromagnética.
