Search for radiative b-baryon decays and study of their anomalous photon polarization at LHCb

En esta tesis se presenta el estudio de dos desintegraciones radiativas de bariones que contienen un quark bottom: Lambda_b -> Lambda gamma and Xi_b^- -> Xi^- gamma. En primer lugar, se ha realizado una búsqueda de dichas desintegraciones usando datos tomados por el experimento LHCb para medir sus fracciones de desintegración. En segundo lugar, se usan los candidatos señal para medir la polarización del fotón a haciendo uso del formalismo de helicidad. Esta tesis presenta la primera medida de la polarización del fotón usando la desintegración radiativa b-bariónica Lambda_b -> Lambda gamma, y el primer estudio de la desintegración Xi_b^- -> Xi^- gamma. Kā paraugi tika izvēlētas 3 lodīšu pildspalvas. 2-fenoksietanola un tā derivatizācijas produkta noteikšanai izmantota metode bija augstefektīva šķidruma hromatogrāfija (AEŠH).

The Large Hadron Collider at CERN will start data acquisition in 2007. The ATLAS (A Toroidal LHC Apparatus) experiment is preparing for the data handling and analysis via a series of Data Challenges and production exercises to validate its computing model and to provide useful samples of data for detector and physics studies. The last Data Challenge, begun in June 2004 and ended in early 2005, was the first performed completely in a Grid environment. Immediately afterwards, a new production activity was necessary in order to provide the event samples for the ATLAS physics workshop, taking place in June 2005 in Rome. Abstract : The work analyses the formation of the Portuguese language and its literary and historical parallels with Castilian and Catalan. With this aim, we first contextualize the linguistic and literary trajectory of Iberian-Romance languages, in order to highlight similarities and diff erences in Hispania. The present article discusses the Soviet reception of Humboldt’s linguistic ideas, focusing on different interpretations of his ideas during the period between the latter half of the 1920s and the early 1950s. While Humboldt’s idea of the inner form of language was an important ingredient in Shpet’s phenomenology, the attitude towards Humboldt changed radically in the late 1920s and early 1930s when the ‘bolshevization’ of the sciences had reached linguistics. The idea that language, nation, and culture are closely interconnected was at odds with the ‘Marxist’ idea of class-language, according to which linguistic diversity derives from the socio-economic characteristics of societies. Two studies were performed to investigate the effects of an acute bout of physical exercise on the nuclear protein kappaB (NF-kappaB) signaling pathway in rat skeletal muscle. In Study 1, a group of rats (n=6) was run on the treadmill at 25 m/min, 5% grade, for 1 h or until exhaustion (Ex), and compared with a second group (n=6) injected with two doses of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC, 100 mg/kg, i.p.) 24 and 1 h prior to the acute exercise bout. Three additional groups of rats (n=6) were injected with either 8 mg/kg (i.p.) of lipopolysaccharide (LPS), 1 mmol/kg (i.p.) t-butylhydroperoxide (tBHP), or saline (C) and killed at resting condition.
